Slant vs Straight cabs

I had two Identical caps... Same speakers etc. One Straight one Slant.

The Slant was Brighter, and had less bottom end.

It was probably brighter due to the angle with the speaker pointing directly at you...

It had less bottom probably cause it has less volume inside the cab...

In any case the Straight cab sounded way better.

I prefer straight cabs, but I actually own 2 slant cabs, so as you can see its not that big of deal to me.

I like both but if I'm just using side by side half stacks I like the slants for the projection of the angle of the speakers.

If you have a bunch of cabs and can stack them, straights are ok....I prefer slants.

Let's get straight to the point here. This is the correct response. ;)

I normally record with straight cabs because I like the tone. I normally gig with a slant cab because of the dispersion.

I'm straight but I prefer the slant!

How can you hear your guitar live if you are playing in front of a straight front cab that's sitting on the floor?! I like to stand between 5 to 9 feet in front of my cabinet when playing live. If I used a straight cabinet, I wouldn't be able to hear anything without cranking the amp up even more than it needs to be......

Nice!

My rig actually looks a little more like this these days though. I still have the ENGL PRO cab (not pictured), but let the XXL go and got the ported Genz cab because it was a ton less boomy.

I just sold my Diezel Herbert a couple months back, had to do it for financial reasons, so I venture to say you do indeed have good taste in amps and guitars.

Straights by far! And something I haven't seen mention, but I always take the casters off...adds significantly more low end!

Straight without a doubt. I don't swing that way - slant that is.

Whenever I A/B the same model straight/angled cab, I ALWAYS go home with the straight. I like the look of an angled cab more but, the straight cab tone is where its at!

All my cabs a straight. But, live tone can be misleading from a straight cab. If you are setting up EQ, standing there with your guitar slung, what you hear is not what is going to be projected straight at the front of the stage because you ears are about 3 feet above the projection, more or less - unless you are a midget. If you are on a 4 foot stage, the poor fuckers directly in front are likely to be pounded with the ice picks as your "not so EQ'd" sound is going to be a hell of a lot brighter than you think. You could hear this standing there at your amp, twisting knobs. While this certainly does not warrant changing from straight to slant, it is something to keep in mind while setting up, and the slant I believe will give a better representation of what you want your audience to hear.
