So what Marshall should I be looking for?

git-r-done scott!!! 71 supertrem ftw!

if nothing else-hook up for a test drive.

early 70s super, either lead or bass, cascade v1, and give it both the master on v2 (original marshall master) and ppiv. I have a schematic that will allow you to use three inputs on the front of the amp to use
1 plexi circuit
2 super lead master (v2 master)
3 ganged dual master (like current production master)

pure in your face, everything you want, nothing you dont, and Ed can come over and bitch slap me if he wishes, but he first has to play thru mine and THEN decide if he still wants to :D

damn-rufus sold it-sorry.

no interest in the first one I showed you?

It is packed ready for shipment

Plus I would have gotten him drunk, told his wife about his other amps, and walked away giving him about $1200   :D

I'll pretty much Echo what everyone else is saying but with a few adds.

A 71 or 72 100 watter with a PPIV master volume or cranked to high hell through h30's will get you into Lynch Land. I also dig the 70's 4 i/p JMP's and 50 and 100 Watt JMP's

The other addition that some people might not like is the 1978 50 watt JMP with a master volume For some reason those fuckers cranked up are nasty as hell (ala Ronnie Letekro)

and I think brother Tom's idea sound insanely cool!!

DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!

That would have been awesome if I could have scored that from someone that I trust

Funny story with that amp - I mentioned in my ad that some guy named Dave Polk scratched his name into the back. Well a friend of Daves saw it and told him about it - evidently his Dad had put his name on the back in 1983. Long story short, Dave is buying it back from me, 20+ years after selling it and mating it back up with the original cab he's kept all these years..

Ralphie, next time you are out on my part of the island, I have to get you to stop by and try her out in the sound room. for me, she is the shiz

We'd have to wait 'till she's asleep to sneak it out of the house

Wow, sucks for me but that is a cool story!

Yeah... that's the next model I'd look into. Very early MV JMP. Like Ralphie said, late 70's very early 80's... With the old headshell. Anything past that and I'd look elsewhere. But those are quite expensive these days as well. They were like $350 about 10 years ago!!! I wish I had money back then! I would have bought like 10! LOL! :D

I advise everyone considering getting married to fill your jam room with empty headshells and empty guitar cases.

A early 70's NMV, one of the loudest amps known to man, has to sneak out of the house... :hys:

Going for the big guns now Scott

Good excuse to build a sound insulated room in your basement

Like others have said, 70's JMP is where its at. It doesnt have to be pre-pcb IMO. As long as it roars its awesome. Just make sure you get a Non Master Volume one. Add a PPIMv and you will get gained out bedroom volume tones that kill. Turn it all the way up and your back to stock and kicking motherfuckers in the teeth.

Modelers come and go but JMP is forever.
Or until you need a cap job and a replacement o-x. :)

Be happy I didn't tell him to get a Marshall Major then. :)

I'm just laughing that a SuperTrem could be in a home without the ol' lady's knowledge. You blink at the volume knob and the walls shake!

This is 100% correct. Nothing else need be said.

Before this '71 ST, I had a '72 SL with the Rich mod MV. It also sounded great, but my problem with both amps is that the low end is not very tight - chords can get muddy, especially if you like a lot of gain and are trying to keep the volume down like I have to. Cut back the lows and it's better. Use the right pedal for a boost and its better still. But to really get it where I wanted, I knew I'd have to start tweaking the circuit. And I don't have the balls to start hacking up a vintage Marshall - even if I knew what I was doing.

Plus, I already have 2 Cameron Jose's which are the best sounding Marshalls I've ever heard. So I couldn't justify spending the time modding a vintage amp to make it sound like 2 other amps I already have.
