Soundgarden added Soldano to the mix

Dude, you get into some PCP or something ? Black Hole Sun ain't even close to the best song on that album. Mailman might be the best fucking song ever written by anyone, ever. Head Down, Like Suicide, The Day I Tried To Live. And BadMotorFinger fucking kicks ass. Not to mention Burden in My Hand. Fucking Soundgarden was killer as killer gets.

The first Audioslave album kicks ass too. I got a bootleg copy of that album about 6 months before it was released. They were billing themselves as "Civilian" and it only had about 4 songs on it. Killer shit man.

🤷‍♂️ They bore the shit out of me. I detest grunge. If any of those bands tried to smile, their faces would crack. I hate a lot of 90's music.

I don’t know man, Cornell was never quite the singer live as in the studio, but short of Plant in 70 and Coverdale in 87 I can’t think of many others more on fire than him, especially on those early albums. She’s ok, but picking her over Cornell is like watching Satriani play VH1 all stiff and liking it more than Eddie

Chris was a fantastic singer, no argument there.

WTF is grunge ?

Soundgarden pre-dated the so-called “grunge” movement. They were the first Seattle band from that era to get signed and them, along with AIC, sound absolutely nothing like Nirvana or most of the other Seattle bands. I could accept that you simply don’t care for the music, but brother, if Mailman bores you I don’t know how you can call yourself a fan of hard rock. Maybe the fucked up tunings confuse you or something ? Tune to CGDGBE, dime your Marshall plug in a humbucker equipped Gibson and play the song. Then tell me you’re bored.

Man, I feel you totally. I was of age when that shit all came out. I thought it was all terrible outside of AIC. But to me they were more of a metal band. It felt so much like a step backwards. It was like all guitar players decided to dumb down their playing (or maybe they just were not that good). For me, I thought back then (and now) that Kim Thayil's playing was lame and he ruined the band for me. I do like some of their songs but the guitars could have been so much better. I never understood the appeal and the Zeppelin comparisons back then. But I think I am a man out of step with his generation even back then so what do I know?

I agree with you on AIC. I always considered them to be kinda like Zep in that they could shift gears from heavy AF to beautiful tunes like "No Excuses".

I see where your coming from to a point as when I first heard Soundgarden I always thought the guitar playing of Kim Thayil was sort of the weak link in the band as it was like a milder riff version of Sabbath and without any memorable solos, but as I have gotten older I appreciate it more, but Chris Cornell was always the main reason I liked them overall. I actually liked him more in Audio Slave myself, But in the end my favorite band to come out of the 90's is and will always be Alice In Chains ! I still listen to them as well as Jerry's solo stuff quite a bit even to this day.

Other than Black Hole Sun, Soundgarden is boring AF IMO. With Taylor they sounded like a band on fire. I had the misfortune of seeing Soundgarden in the 90's because I was offered a free ticket and figured I'd give 'em a fair listen. I couldn't wait to get out of there. For the encore, Cornell came out with an acoustic guitar and played that song by himself. I was so pissed off! LOL
Soundgarden IMHO is an acquired taste Johnny! If Soundgarden is boring AF to your ears... 'DO NOT' , I repeat! 'DO NOT' listen to Type O Negative.........

Wow surprised to see Soundgarden hate. My fav band, them and AiC. Saw them live and Chris Cornell was amazing. Huge man crush on that guy.

I think they are still a solid band, just not an incredible band, but as mentioned without Chris Cornell they never would of been noticed.

Chris is still the reason I will put a cd of them on from time to time.

While SG/Cornell gets due credit for the vocals I always thought many ignored the crazy ass tunings that dude would come up with. All the more reason Ian Thornley would make for a great match, those dudes were cut from some of the same cloth between the Plant influence and writing bangin’ tunes in fucked up tunings I’d never even think to utilize.

Surprised this hasn’t been posted yet-
