Still one of the best amps out there...

And for me channel 3 was the titties….but I was also playing it in stereo with a jvm410h also. And I’m not a tool fanboi…just wound up with that setup.

That mix probably sounded pretty killer. I plan on picking up a JVM410H at some point this year. It's definitely different enough from the VH4 to create a nice blend.

Always really liked those amps, just never quite enough to spend that much on one.

The Atlanta GC had a few used ones over the years that I played while I was down there.

Need more Koch demos on here. I’ll have one one day. Oh wait…we’ve never had any on here….

For those with experience, what's the difference between the Hagen and VH4? I really dig my Hagen but you rarely hear about it even though its supposed to be a modern VH4.

Biggest differences are the VH4 has a tighter/fast playing response and a smoother top end (not as many high frequencies). Hagen lets more bass through so it’s a looser amp and can be brighter than the VH4 (more high frequencies).

Did anybody notice that the vh4 hated mesa os4x12’s with v30’s? Mine did….woof city. The Herbert sounded killer with that cab though. My vh4 was great with my Randall xl with 2 v30’s and a legend 15” and surprisingly a gflex 2x12….

If you search my posts...I did a very long and detailed review and comparison last year. You may find it helpful.

I found every channel of the Hagen sounded better EXCEPT the mighty channel 3 of the VH4. I'd kill to have that amp.

Hagens suck. You should sell yours to me at a heavy discount
Just playing. I had a Hagen for about 8 years and traded it. Regretted it ever since. Awesome amp. Tight, made for Modern sounds and drop tunings, never muddy. I’ve never owned a VH4, but playing one always sounded more spongy to me, a little wooly I guess. It’s good, great amp too but Hagen is where it’s at for me.
They just don’t pop up much…

I actually find that the Mesa V30 cabs are a great match with the VH4...But I ave heard more that a few people who agree with you as well.

Maybe it’s certain production years…or tubes. I can’t remember which tubes mine had. I know they were tad’s…man that’s been years ago…

Channel 2 boosted is my favorite sound out of this amp. I also noticed that it is very responsive to preamp tube swapping and found that biasing it cold (the one I had was el34) was beneficial in tightening up the low end.

Yeah, the Oversized Mesa cabs do not play well with the VH4. I remember having to keep the depth at zero and the bass at like, 9 o'clock just to keep the bass in check.

My old 99 Traditional sized Recto cab was another story: the VH4 sounded amazing through that; huge, tight and punchy!

Ya, the VH4 is a modern classic for sure and I miss having one. I have a Herbert mk3 and VHX, but for Diezel tones, I spend 95% of the time using the VHX's VH4 settings.
