Actually, I was the first one to buy a cab from John with those colors. I did it over a year ago, and it was my iea. I wanted one of his cabs becdause they sound better than any cab I have ever heard. I made the decision that the Mod 50 was my favorite head, and the Stone Age 2 x 12 C was my favorite cab. I wanted the cab to match, and since colors are not proprietary...I ordered the cab. She's a beauty, equipped with Celestion Heritage 65's for the best tone on Earth.

Good looking cab... If it sounds as good as it looks you should be very happy with your purchase.

I see nothing wrong with him building custom cabs to the owners specs.

In fact I think its awesome and shows hes in tune with his market, you guys are selling alot of amps these days in that color.

If I had an Egnater amp with that unique color scheme but didn't want an Egnater cab I'd want mine to match too.

The stone age was a great cab, no problems and John is an excellent person to deal with. I had 2 stone age 4x12's in the past. I just wanted to try out a Mills, which is also an excellent cab and again Dave is great to deal with as well. The Mills was bigger sounding with more bass and punch which I attribute to its physical size and special baffle. My SA was loaded with G12K100's and the Mills with V30's. I eventually sold the Mills Afterburner due to its size and weight---like 120+ lbs and it would not fit in my car. I did however purchase a Mills "Classic" which is 95% of the Afterburner and also sounds awsome. But, my favorite by far is my new '69 Scumback cab loaded with M75's (65 watt) version. If slays. Mostly due to the speakers but the cab is of exceptional quality in itself. So, there you have it. Can't go wrong with either one IMO.

thanks man...... what head did you slam thru the stoneage? ive had my eye on them lately....also isnt scumback having problems getting the products to folks? im running diezel vh4,herbert and mesa roadster for primary heads. A friend of mine played a mills, he said it was boomy, IDK wasnt there!

At the time I had the SA I had a modded JCM800, but also played a VH4 through it as well. MHenson42 borrowed it and ran his Herbert, VHT and VH4 throught it, that is when he decided he needed G12K100's! A firend still owns it and it still sounds awsome. I have not heard anything about SA having problems delivering, it usually takes about 6 weeks to get them as he builds them when you order them.

is there a reason you are fucking riding my ass on the forum since i signed up? enuff already. that question wasnt directed to you anyway.

for one, your ignorance reminds me of carl and sixstrings. "enuff" is not a word. speak like a fucking human being and leave the internet eubonics to places like TGP and HCAF.

if you dont know who sixstrings or carl are, then that leads me to my second point - i have it out for people who join any forum at all and have the balls to post "official" topics or asking questions when they have no fucking clue what topics have existed over the years, no clue what amazing information has already been mentioned in the forum from very well respected members, or how many cabinet topics already exist with the click of a search button.

its also revalent that major companies like TC electronics and other manufacturers lurk here.

a smart thing to have said would have been "did you make the switch because of the afterburner baffleboard or something else?"

if you dont know what the afterburner baffleboard is, then use the search button and read. see what im getting at here?

post like you have some common sense and watch this: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/posting

why should he have to use the search button?

he doesnt have to. as a matter of fact, no one has to. its not written in forum rules because its considered common fucking sense to use the search button before typing on a topic you know absolute shit about.

anyone can ask a question, as a matter of fact thats the whole point of this place :D

but its forum etiquette to search BEFORE you post your question, unless its stupid simple and can easily be answered by someone online easily and quickly.

it prevents the guys that have spent the time to post meaningful replies in the past from saying the same thing 1000 times over and seeing the same damn threads over and over and over and over and over and over. the search button SEARCHES the forum for all revalent topics (woooooowww!?), which gives you many answers on a single topic all at once.

i mean seriously, is it that hard to contemplate?

and i appologize for hijacking the stoneage cabinets thread

wow...and I thought this thread was long dead & buried.....

...just so people do not misinterperate the last SA reference, and who you're referring to, I want to clarify:
our most popular cabs are built in runs [2x12C / 4x12B / 112 / etc etc].

Well, I don't think so...let me check...I got in roughly 16 orders of speakers in the last two months, averaging 50-60 per week, plus anyone who orders four speakers in the USA gets them drop shipped directly to them to save time. A client who ordered four Scumbacks on 1/19, got them yesterday, so that's about a 17 day wait including shipping...that's not exactly a big problem last time I checked. In fact the same thing happened for John @ Stone Age, his order was placed 1/12 and he got it just over a week ago.

If you're talking about overseas clients, well, the delay there is the USPS and foreign country customs, not me, or Weber VST. About four months ago there was a slow down to about 5-6 weeks because of just huge orders that Weber VST (they build my speakers on a proprietary basis) received that slowed all of their clients shipments down, but they've hired some extra help so they're back on track with about a two week build time plus shipping, as shown by the orders placed in January I've illustrated above.

John...morning buddy! I wouldn't be awake this early, but the rain is coming down so hard on the roof and my BBQ lid that it woke me up!

One other thing, folks, when you say SA you might want to clarify if that's "Stone Age" or "Southbay Ampworks" you're referring to. I'll be switching the company name to Scumback Speakers & Cabinets soon, so that'll make it easier to keep straight.

To: Cujo...umm, I'm not going to take sides in this "search" thing, but it is accepted practice in forums to do a search on a subject/topic before you post a new thread. Doing a "Google" search will yield tons of results.

IMO, your "Official Guitar Cabinet" thread is so broad you'll have scatter shot answers from everywhere, opinions from vastly different players with many different tone needs, and a lot of conjecture on products.
And as you might already know...tone is subjective, so what you think won't mean diddly to glpg80, but it might to member X. So that's a thread doomed to redundancy, and bickering.

What would probably work best is if you were to go through what you need, for what tones, guitars, fx, playing situation, etc. For example, here's my six standard questions to get people's speaker choices narrowed down.

When I recommend speakers for players, it’s important to know their tone needs. Can you fill in the blanks on these questions for me, please? Then I can make an informed recommendation on speakers to improve your tone. Thanks!

1. Guitar/pickups used, how hot do you set your guitar volume?
2. Amp type/tubes used/clean RMS rating (volume of 4-5) and OD power rating (over 7)?
Where is your amp’s volume set?
3. Fx used?
4. Style of music or name a famous guitarist tone you’re trying to get close to?
5. Size and depth of cabinet (dimensions), is it straight or angled, open or closed back type?
6. What speakers are you using now and what do you think needs improvement?

(Or is that OGC thread just academic?)

Look, im not really new to this forum, just did some changes, I didnt mean to tick you off, i have been searching n searching for answers, just thought maybe we can get anthread with all the cabinets n specs on one page, guess not, I am not here to fight, this is a great forum, for any of my ignorance or mis posts, i do apologize.Cmon ...I love you guys  LOL!

just having a hard time finding my dream cabinet w so many options, ive been trying them when n where i can, but my eyes adore Johns cabs, esp that one up top of page, thats killer looking! I have basson cabs with eminence legends in them, I hear the speakers are good but cabs are killin me, mdf! they are very dark and choke the mids. I played thru a nice marshall cab loaded with a mix gt75/v30 and a splawn x sm/big blks, both sounded sweet. played thru a diezel , yes a new one, yes it sounded great, not 1800.00 great! also tried randall, engl, mesa, vht, various marshall... that guy brad on here uses those marshall handwired cabs they sound amazing on the clips!

again my apologies to fellow riggers!

I think your point was missed from the start. You asked for ALL cabinet models and specs and people started sending pics of their rig and discussing their cabinet likes/dislikes.

I posted a link to my ported cabinet list thinking you wanted to create an all encompassing cabinet thread, a resource for our forum.

seems like a daunting task, there must be so many cabs out there that are worth playing.

StoneAge cabs is about 15 minutes from where I live.
I need to bring my amp over there and run thru some cabs one of these days.......

hhmm...fyi, I do many cloth tolex 'schemes'.....so, if someone with an Egnater amp prefers me to build a cab that matches said amp...I'm gonna build it for them. If someone with a red elephant Marshall amp prefers one of my cabs to match, I'm going to build that for them, as well. Neither Bruce or Frank has directly asked me to not use these colors & cloth....[then I will definitely consider not using these colors]...which I might add are readily available for anyone to use, as they have been around for the past 40 years or so.
This is a great forum, I have visited here many times, and actually know quite a few members from other forums. Not looking to get off on the wrong foot...but felt compelled to reply after this was brought to my attention by more than a few friends. Too bad my 1st post here had to be about something like the above comment...which, IMHO, should have been directed to me either in person/phone call or email.

Thank you,
John

edit:
BTW...the cab in ? [pictured 4x12 straight] is nearly 1 1/2 years old..

Well said John! I know how difficult it is to respond on a forum to this type of attack/call out. Well done! All class. Everyone, give the man respect.
