Suhr guitars advice

To be honest, it's really arbitrary what guitar you use for 'metal'. What's most important is what is comfortable to you. Maiden uses Strats, Death (Chuck) used BC Rich, Metallica uses ESP, etc...

As far as Suhr, their quality is awesome. But, grab a nice USA Fender and it's pretty comparable. Same with PRS.

There is also a point where you are just paying for fancy tops and options. If you were to go the Suhr route, a Pro series as some have mentioned, would be a great place to start.

I have played a few really expensive Suhrs, and they played the same as the lesser expensive Suhrs. Just had fancier appointments.

I think if you get a good one they're definitely worth it. Based on my experience owning a few, I would try before you buy if possible.

I have owned a bunch of Suhr guitars, still do. Pretty much just buy the guitar you like, get the pickups you like, the amp you like - and it will cover whatever you need.
I like Tele style guitars, my # 1 is a Suhr T loaded with BKP Aftermaths, does metal just fine.

If you're looking for a guitar that "looks" metal, meh - there's a ton of those.

Holy shit. Can't believe some of the crap I read on here some times. If you get a Suhr, you'll have one of the finest guitars on the planet. The rest is up to you.

They just released this by the way...

I dunno. I think Suhr can make some guitars that are real metal looking. I know this is an Anderson, but Suhr could make something that looks just like it (minus a string), and I feel like this fits in with any type of metal I can think of:

Gee Reza, way to be a party pooper! :P haha I'm just playing. Appreciate all the input guys. I don't want a Suhr because i want to try and make something that wasn't designed for metal play metal, i want one because they seem like they are a brilliant quality guitar, and i'm assuming (and also asked about this) if with the right pickups they could handle it. Seems as though a Suhr modern with the right pickups could definitely be an option for me.

The point made about 'do you see metal guys playing them'... You don't, but i doubt its because they don't want suhr's. I'd say its because they all play mid range ibanez and ESP/LTD's. Metal bands don't get the recognition and support (or funds) that some big name players get who use fenders, gibson, etc.

But anyhow, thank you for all the input. Might have to take the plunge in the near future :)

They can handle metal for sure with the right pickups, but I've always thought the best metal tones come from Les Pauls. They just have that 'grunt' you don't get with a super Strat.

He's just a fucking asshole, he can't help it. ;) You asked about the sig, well ...there you have it!

Suhr are beautiful guitars. They seem to be very well made. Love the stainless frets and the finishes. I have tried a few of them and sadly, they just aren't for me.

Good luck with finding the one you are looking for!

WELL, where should we begin?

EMG loaded, big frets, Floyd rose systems, pointy shapes, aggressive tones...these are METAL brand stylings.

Can you play metal on a Tele? SURE! Look at Gojira, lead singer is basically playing a Tele, but its not a Fender (per se). Its loaded with high output pickups, ebony board, big frets and was designed to play METAL on it. same thing with the Jim Root Tele, its Made for METAL.

Suhr guitars are not.

You're absolutely right. It's a guitar, you "Can" play metal on it.

But Suhr is not a metal
Guitar brand. That's all I was saying.

ESP and Jackson are "Made" for metal in mind. That was the distinction I was alluding to.

And for the record Ian Thornley fucking rules.

Lookup ihave27frets on the board. One of the more successful musician's on the board.

Adam D played Fenders almost exclusively in the early days of Killswitch Engage
(Single coils too, not even death metal humbuckers)

Jari from Wintersun regularly played Telecasters live and on the first album.

That's off the top of my head of "non metal" guitars being used in death metal. Suhr's can handle death metal no problem at all. Just about any guitar can handle death metal with the right pickups amp and hands. Suhr makes excellent quality guitars and if you got one it would not disappoint. It certainly wouldn't be a one trick pony either, you'd be able to pull of lots of different types of music with it including death metal.

Yea , thats the same guy in the MI audio demo that I linked earlier in this thread . He is definitely a monster player

Get a guitar you dig that works for you, IMO. Doesn't matter what anyone else uses, how they use it or why.

For example, I dig Rics...but a Ric into my Engl rig sounds nothing like a Ric. While I wouldn't use a Ric to play metal, it's not because of the sounds or the looks (I dig both)..., they're not fast necks IME.

Not a huge fan of his but Reb Beach from Whitesnake plays Suhr guitars.

I had one of the more classic looking Suhrs years ago and played great but the stainless steel frets took a little getting used to. I think a more metal Suhr would sound great though. I'm a huge Suhr Aldrich pickup fan. Those are great pickups with tons of gain but cleans up like no metal pickup I've ever heard.
