Thanks so much for giving me some big GAS Ralph :D

Whit my Wizards I thought the madness of buying was over, but it will never end.

We are all sick

Since Gary and Keith love this amp and also love the Wizard I think this amp will be the next thing for me.

BTW Gary your old Metal are in a basement in Norway.

Really ? WM #123 ? Cool

Though its a very different animal than a Wizard, I would put the Fortin in the same upper echelon of high quality amps. There's not many at that level IMO.

Yeah WM # 123, havent tried it yet because DHL damaged some thinks when it was shipped
My MC will do it for now. Gary, are the Metal darker than the newer MC?

Ralph buddy you cannot say those things, tell us you have it at home and not give us clips. Clips or else you know what happens to your fine china. :gethim: :D

Man, I sure am glad I'll never have amp gas anytime soon with the Ultra. Guitar gas however...... it's hopeless. EVH Fender Wolfgang and LP Axcess gas now!

Clips and pic would be great! Sounds like a killer amp!

I'd like to echo what Ralph said as I've played the very same amp. I'll also add a few thoughts : Yes, a modded pissed off Marshall vibe is what this amp is about, albeit with the ability to get crystal clean too. It does have some VHT qualities, mostly in the articulation and authority. But it doesn't neccessarily sound like one. Personally I don't really dig the VHT voicing BUT I really do like the Fortin voicing. So to me its more VHT like in its articulation and focus yet more Marshall like in tone. Thats what I want to hear in a "modded Marshall" type amp

And to be clear, this amp can do metal easily, both rhythm and lead. Its absolutely tight and gainy enough. But I think the amp is more suited for the virtuoso type of players like Gilbert, Sykes, Lynch, etc because of its tight yet FLUID tone. Its that school of metal. The upcoming Natas amp will be focussed on the other side of the metal fence, the really heavy shit like thrash, death, technical extreme metal, etc. It will most definitely NOT be a scooped to obliveon amp like the Ubershcall or out-gain a 5150. Rather, its going to sound good   Its just going a have an outright vicious, angry quality that has not been realized in any other amp to this point. I'm into some of the really heavy bands out there but almost all of them have horrid tone. I truly believe this amp will fix that

I agree with everything you said. When I mentioned the VHT, I meant that the Fortin has a VHT type quality or similarity to it but it is definitely not voiced like a VHT amplifier nor does it feel or react like a VHT amp.
Another thing that I forgot to mention is how the amp cleans up when you roll off the volume vontrol knob on your guitar. Definitely a cool feature given how much gain they have!

Thanks for the review Ralph. Some of your description reminded me of my own amp :D
I was looking at Fortin amps a while back. Maybe someday as a second amp...

I will be the first to ask...

Which do you like better Cameron CCV / CCM or the Fortin. You only get one choice. ;)

Well you know that I am pretty honest and I don't hold back (much like yourself!) But this is highly based on my opinion as to what I like vs to what others will like. So not to skate your question, Both amps are killer but being that I have been a major fan of Marks work since 1992, My preference at this time would be for the Camerons. That's only my opinion based on what I like but that doesn't mean that the Fortin doesn't kill because it does! This is also Mikes Stripped down amp, so I am jonesing to hear the NATAS and the Meathead!

Now with that said, I know of more then a few guys who don't like the Camerons and this amp would be a killer choice for them or anyone for that matter .   That's wha'ts great about having so many options these days!

On another note, Mike is insane....anyone who can make a 6 channel amp with 42 relays knows his shit

Can't wait to hear a meathead, listened to the clips on thier site of the Bones, that thing is TIGHT! It may be too tight for me, seems like any unplanned sounds would show up easily, it may be the guitar he was using. sounded wicked though! Look forward to your later review - Jim

Good point Ralph. Your favourite is still the Cameron and thats totally cool. At this playing field we're talking about personal preference. By that I mean the only amps that have ever made my jaw drop are Wizards, the Larry Dino 939, a special Mesa MKIIC+ with the 105 tranny & ++ mod, and now the Fortin. I've tried so many other good ones, but for me those 4 I mentioned are far and away the most impressive. All totally different, equally cool in their own ways. Never tried a Cameron amp or Marshall moddded by him but I'm sure they're up there in that class too.

Its great having all these choices. High gain amps have come a long way, even in the last 10 - 15 years. The bar keeps on getting raised IMO

Jim!!

Ive played Mesa boogie Mark series amps for many years and they have a wicked sag to them, so I was paranoid to try this amp because I knew that it was going to be tighter then what I was normally used to playing. Now with that said, My fear was put to ease after getting to play the Bones because Mike was able to make a tight focused amp but with a killer feel that puts you at ease when you play!! That's never happened to me before and I have no idea how the hell he managed to do that!!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Mike can add some sag into the amp if someone wanted that!!! he's the man!!

Sup!!
Yup.. I agree. It's definitely personal preferance at this point and I knew that Dave was posing a tough question for me to answer lol :D
The Fortin amps are on another level of craftsmanship and I firmly believe that Mike is going to be one of the top builders in the world.

I would have killed for any of these amps when I was playing out back in the day. I hate to say this but if you get a bad tone in this day and age it's more then likely pilot error rather then the gear :D:D:D

Hey Ralph, the amp sounds really good. From the clip I heard on the site, It sounds really tight.
Great review
