The most INEXPENSIVE rig you would gig....

My Jose modded Jet City 20 watt. Worth about $400. Mesa Boogie thiele cabinet. $400. Simple delay pedal, $50, Charvel promod $800. So less than $1,700 for guitar, amp, cabinet and pedals...and I’ll have great tone.

Serious question. Will you be heard if you’re playing a dive club where they’re only putting vocals through the PA?

Early 70's Fender Champ....my neighbor found it by the dumpster. Did not have any sound. Cleaned the pots and Jack's and it sounds fantastic.

I've done several gigs with this amp over the years. With and without pedals.

Total price...zero

I can’t confirm, but I can tell you that amp gets stupid loud. I mean your ears will ring if I crank it.

Peavey XXX head, and 2x12 or4x12. Well under $1000.

Of course, that's if you're a metal guy. You could substitute the XXX for a DSL.

That sounds about right.
If I was scraping even lower, Katana 100 head onto a cheap craigslist cab.

I did a fly in gig that was broadcast on TV, Dish Network. I requested a Twin Reverb. I show up in Kansas and there’s a Pro Junior. What are those, 7 watts and a 10” speaker? For a TV broadcast.
Fortunately, the sound crew was amazing. I watched the playback and it sounded fantastic.

Would I have rather had a Matchless or a Bogner? Sure, but you have to use what you’ve got and make it work. Good pedals are the key. Unless you’re playing heavy music.

Sheeeit; back early 90’s it was a Randall rg100 ($100) I found in a pawn shop, and a peavey cab with celestion I bought from a friend for $200, and a boss overdrive that someone gave me. That and my old charvel that I still have was a mean ass cheap rig that I would play today.

Used 5150/6505,a 10 band and a gate,and a 4x12.

And a $250 guitar cable just because.
Nice, I have the 6 band that kills. Don't know why but it is super reactive.

If I get to pick the music, I could do it (in any venue that has a P.A. if it needs one) with a tuner and a Blues Cube Hot. If I have to be ready for anything, that's a taller order, but throw in a Source Audio Kingmaker and a few other pedals as needed, and I'd get by in most contexts.

I saw a XXX head for $349, and XXX 4x12 cab for $199 on GC used site. Add an OD boost, of course to tighten things up, you're good to go.

Can't say how many REALLY GOOD players I saw gigging with Flextones about 15 years ago...

This is pretty much the camp I'm in.

Marshall DSL100H or a XXX, any backline cabinet, a boost pedal, and a G major.

To go any cheaper, I'd grab one of those peavey transtube 2x12 amplifiers and just run the effects in the front. That's pushing it though.

Ceriatone Chupacabra
Used Marshall 4x12 with Chinese Greenbacks
Guitar is a tough one because it needs to stay in tune and play well. I guess I'd go with a used Ibanez RG of some sort. Or maybe a Charvel San Dimas?

That should be under $3K right there.

Sansamp with a boost pedal through the house. (If the venue has powered monitors)

Ive played several small shows with my katana 100 watt combo and a few pedals (tuner, EQ in the loop for boost) but if I spent the time to program it with the footswitch better I Could probably do it without most of the pedals. Bought an epiphone les Paul traditional in one of musicians friend stupid deal of the days a couple years ago for 299. If I had to and spent the time I could do shows with that those and a tuner. So I guess 750.00 for all of it.
