I think Ray's problem was under exposure. I never heard of him until way later on and when I did I was like Why the hell isn't this guy a househould name with guitar players!!

Here's my definition...under rated=not as familiar as some one should be by how influential they are.

Also bad timing...Volume came out right around VH1.

That explains a lot.

IMHO Ray was doing stuff back then that was mind blowing. (sill mind blowing today of course !)

Sure is, hence him being such a huge influence. He was the first guy I'm aware of that did the playing melodies with the whammy (before Beck), or playing slap bass stuff on guitar.

Vernon Reid

Yeah I said it Ralph :gethim: Man that freaking band blew onto the sceen and imo just blew the joint up....nobody brought to the plate what Vernon and the boys brought in the late 80s.

Yes.....I hear Vernon

C.C. Devill I don't think he's as bad as every one says.

Guthrie Govan

Guthrie is underrated? Hmmmmm... Just about every guitarist who hears him thinks he's the greatest thing since [insert last great player here]... I don't think he's underrated, just unkown outside the "shredder guitar player" community...

Ritchie Kotzen.

While a small niche' of people know how amazing a player he is there are just as many who dont.

Once again, Kotzen is not underrated, just unkown outside the guitar player insider community. He is highly rated by those who've heard him. To me there is a big difference...

Neil Giraldo.

Absolutely! I'm impressed everytime I see him play. I saw him and that wife of his play at The Joint in Vegas several years ago and he blew me away.

This is what I mean by underrated. Guitarists don't talk about how great a player he is. Totally opposite from Kotzen and Govan who are just unknown and not underrated...

Ok Steve.......................

Lindsey Buckingham.

Well played, sir... What blows me away is watching him play some of that intricate fingerpicking acoustic stuff while singing live. I've seen Fleetwood Mac in concert a few times and that is always the highlight for me.

No doubt! Lindsey is freakishly good at both playing and writing, and is a good singer to boot.
