Things that bug you about gear

My Slawn Quick Rod is extremely heavy. The transformers are massive which is a good thing tone wise but not weight wise. Good thing I don't gig I guess. I guess due to circuit distances the OT and PT are pretty close together so not only is it heavy - but it lopsided heavy.

If anyone knows why the transformers need to be so close together please let me know.

My only problem is not having a door on the guitar room. I have a natural reverb, but recording is a challenge sometimes. This forum always makes me want to buy something, then i play my rig and realize i am there..picks get dull.

Not having a place to easily practice any time of the day or night is my top aggravation.

Weight is never an issue - I have hand trucks for hauling my stuff around and if my guitar heads ever get too heavy, my ass is going to the gym and doing more pushups/pull-ups. Anytime stairs are involved I always have someone willing to help out.

I hate not having strap locks. Literally every guitar I own has to have them because I play at a very steep neck angle since it’s more comfortable.

I hate anything I can’t dial in a good sound within minutes. Modelers are non existent in this house. I am building an effects rack but the core tone is already there with them.

I hate the fear of theft or damage. Tbh this shit is expensive as hell and it adds up fast.

I hate that NOS old tubes aren’t manufactured anymore, and that tubes today aren’t built to their old school tolerances.

I hate that stages are going silent. Modelers are making it harder for us tube amp users.

Do any of you guys play one of your amplifiers one evening with absolutely glorious tone and then get up the next morning and fire it up only to find it doesn’t sound the same?
It’s like little gremlins get in there during the night and switch the wiring around or something…
The only amplifier I own that I don’t have this symptom with is the Larry Dino, it is always freaking consistent, always outrageously good.

Louisiana humidity is a big one for me. I'm on Floyd Rose #3 on my main axe - motherfuckers just rust to shit down here :(

I eventually had that same guitar re-fretted with stainless steel because the stock frets would always get crusty in no time

I've since gotten in to the habit of wiping down my strings with a cloth each time before and after I play which definitely helps, but shit still sucks

Poles on pickups can start to rust in no time too with the F-ing south Louisiana humidity. It's already at like 95% humidity this morning.

You're not the only one. That shit happens to me all the time. Glorious tone with little effort dialing it in. Next morning it sounds like someone took a dump on the speakers.

I hate that steals and deals on stuff I've been wanting are all over the place when I have no extra money. As soon as have some spare cash to spend listings dry up, no deals to be found anywhere, I can't find a decent price to save my life.

For sure! In that same axe I mentioned in the earlier post (my '89 Hamer Californian), I put a brand new BG Hellabucker in the bridge slot maybe 7 or 8 years ago? The top of the poles are completely rusted by now.

This part I actually don't mind that much because I think it looks cool. Pickup is less than 10 years old and looks like it was made in the 70's or something

MadAsAHatter, are you familiar with the New Orleans Guitar Company? They make ultra high end fancy guitars that I thought were pretty fucking awesome (too rich for my blood though) and those were the guys I had re-fret my Cali with stainless; they did a killer job.

I actually thought they had closed down but I just checked and it looks like they still exist (at least their website does). I haven't been there in about a decade

I'm not overly familiar, but do know about them. Only seen one of their guitars up close. I was at a friend of a friend's house a number of years ago and the guy had one. He was all OCD about letting anyone touch it so I only got to look at it sitting in its case. From what I saw & remember it was top notch.

I’ve been putting stainless Jumbo frets on my LPCs and although they wear strings out super fast and give a top end detail that isn’t for everyone they play butter smooth and will last a long ass time

Tuning issues by far .
I'm with Techseth on this one. I hate guitars going out of tune. I hate changing strings too. So much so that it affected my playing style as I was learning how to play. I would hold back a bit so I wouldn't break any strings.

Yes! Self practice Saturday insane sound
Real practice Sunday and it sucks? Wtf. Well turn up the volume. That’ll fix it ?

Things that bug me about gear? Hmmm. I would say what bugs me most is that I can never have enough. I want it all!!

Give me, give me, I want, I want, I NEED!!
