Thinking about selling Splawn Quickrod

Getting good gain tones is WAY harder than getting decent cleans. Most Quickrods I've had clean up in the gain channel with the guitar volume lowered. Of course, I never had the gain above half way.

Boogies have the best cleans in a big amp bar none. After all they started out as Hotrod Fenders..

A Mark V would be a wise choice.

I ran my QR with a Pod HD 500 with 4cm. Worked great, had the Splawn OD with the Pod's cleans. There was some added noise though.

Shameless plug, but im trying to sell both QR and Pod HD500w/ gig bag...

Both are SOLD.

This is what I do. I actually like the clean on my older quickrod but I only run my gain around noon. I have a dual overdrive SLO that I use an eq pedal to give a clean tone. I use an mxr 10 band that I bring what I want down so I can shape a clean sound and bring my volume up to unity with my gain channel. I tried it with the quickrod and loved the effect there as well. I would say start with an eq pedal since its cheap and easy like me

I've owned 4 Splawns. I still have a 2012 Nitro. I never got along with my Quickrods but it was not bc of the clean channel. Just a preference thing.

I run a volume pedal in front of my Nitro and just roll it down for cleans. I don't even use the clean channel. For the music I was doing it worked out great. Your experience may differ.

I had two QR's and tried to like them but just couldn't. If you really like the OD side, why not just get a clean amp and A/B to each rig? IMHO, Line 6 do a great clean, and they're cheap!

I just sold my sons Line 6 combo last night. I'd quit guitar if I had to gig with that thing. ;)

LOL!

I used to gig with a Johnson Amplification combo and a ghost would appear out of nowhere and start switching my presets mid-song. It was a nightmare.

I got a LINE 6 combo and broke within hours. Got a second and that broke within hours. That was the end of that. :)

Maybe try switching to a 12AT7 for the clean channel. They lower the signal strength a little, can take the crust off if the clean channel if its borderline. I've done this a few times and for $10-20 it can be a pretty good fix. Usually I think they're used as a reverb tubes but it works good for cleans.

I've been thinking about the same for awhile now. GREAT amp, I just have others I like more. I've tried it all with my Quick Rod and I agree, the tone of that clean circuit is just stale. Sure speakers and tubes can help but you can't change the initial "base" tone of the cleans. I had best results with a TungSol 12ax7 in the clean channel. Still has some punch to the cleans though. You want great cleans and great modded plexi overdrive drop the coin on a new or used BE100. Or if cleans are more important to you and want a great rock tone, the 20th Shiva has the best cleans of any modern amp I've ever had. The Mark V was a close 2nd but I like the richness of the Shiva cleans.
+1 on the 20th Shiva Cleans. Not sure how it could get much better for a high gain amp... I love mine. I still go back and forth on the gain channel, some days i LOVE it, and some days it is just too middy... but that clean channel....that is why I will NEVER sell that amp.

I used to have 2 of those Johnson millennium 150 combos, they both came stock with v30s. One sounded amazing for leads, I was going to keep it just for tracking leads and I actually did get to track a few. The other one sounded like dog shit.

Accidentally sold the good one to someone and I still have the dog shit one

I might take the speakers out and burn it, I don't have the heart to sell it to anyone.
