Next up, @Techdeth playing kelly clarkson on his 100w amps at low volume but on crank
I've gotten a bunch of speakers lately, mostly celestion, but the one nice surprise has been a Jensen C12Q (35 watts) I got, to pair with a Celestion blue in a 2x12. I figured it would be good mostly for cleans/dirty cleans but it has a great midrange with cranked up dirt. The Blue dominates the cab with dB sensitivity but mic'd up the Jensen is doing great it and it's brand new. Wonder what it will be like after a month of decent volume. I picked it after demo videos of other Jensens because it didn't seem to go to crap with overdrive and it's performing how the clips suggested.I kinda did this over the weekend..
I haven't had an opportunity to break in the speaker in my combo with a drummer.
I went to my storage unit and ran a power cord inside the car, cranked it up and closed the door so I didn't kill the birds..
I played nonstop for an hour straight. When I was done I felt the transformers and to my surprise they were pretty much cool.
But the speaker magnet was hot! It also had a whiff of burnt electronics, so that voice coil was good and toasty. That amp is about 50 watts max and the speaker is rated for 70..
Got it home and played it after it cooled off, and guess what? The annoying hashy high I was hoping would go is all but gone and the lowend has more depth and bloom.
Fuck yeah!
Another thing I noticed with all that saturation is that the compression went way up like you had another gain knob. Rolling back on the volume and playing more clean had more dynamics. Rolling back on all the way squashed it back down.. If I were to tweek it with a band, I'd roll the gain down a bit to compensate..
You'll be jealous when he's on tour making the big bux backing sideneck.Next up, @Techdeth playing his 100w amps at low volume but on crank
....with a little help from his MajestyMERICA!!!!!!!!
Dan this actually all sounds like a good time to me atm lol
Krank and Kelly
Agreed. One of my favorite foods is fried voice coils.Speaker breakin is a real thing.
Give them a pounding and they will be great.
Ya I do think it was a cool amp . I’d like to get @RaceU4her ti sell me is Kerry king proto typeI think those Krank amps get a bad rap but they were pretty badass
I don't even like dime, but the Krankenstein is a little bit underrated
