Thornbuckers Too Bright?

Anyone found these a little too bright? I put them in my PRS cu24, just a little too bright in the bridge. I can roll the tone off but it's a pretty substantial move ...like maybe halfway off or so at least. Thinking about changing the pots to try to reign it in a little.

Anyone else?

I have a set in a suhr modern satin and have found them to be great. Bright would never have come to my mind. That being said, I had a 86 PRS CU24 for a long time, it was bone stock and it was one of, if not the brightest guitar I have ever owned.

Thanks man. It may be exactly as you stated....just the nature of that instrument. I'm not giving up on them, I like them when I can find "the spot", just seems a little tougher to find.

I had the + version in my suhr pro (an incredibly bright guitar). I wouldn't say they were bright, I'd say they were quite neutral but I would say that in a bright guitar they had a bit of a snap to there sound.

I have no experience with the Thornbucker, but plenty of experience with a CU24. It is a bright guitar. IMHO the Tone Zone was the best bridge pickup for it.

No Thornbucker here, either, but I also have a CU24 and it can be pretty bright. For my use, I've found a set of BKP Crawlers to be perfect. It's a "rock" pickup, not necessarily a "metal" pickup, but it's really versatile and it warms up the CU24 nicely.

Definitely agree with this, I replaced my thornbucker with a crawler, it's a fantastic pickup it turned my suhr from a guitar I like to one I love.

I don't find the thornbuckers too bright in my Gibson ES-339 or Gibson norlin Les Paul custom. I generally run the tone on the 339 at about 7 and the tone on the dark LP custom all the way up. I am actually super impressed with the Thornbuckers and Suhr pickups in general.

I will say the BKP crawlers look really cool.

Make sure you have the pickup wired with both coils in series, as in parallel will make the sound alot brighter. I have a series/parallel push pull tone pot for each guitar/pickup.

I had a Custom 24 and it was the brightest thing I had ever played. No matter the number of new pickups I put in it would ever sound good to my ears. Was happy to move it on its way.
