thought you might wanna see an x ray of my les paul

I don't understand why Gibson does not use the same (african) sub-type of mahogany which is used by (good) asian manufacturers like ESP and Fujigen. This way a solid Les Paul weights 4 kilos, which is ok IMO.

I'm not sure why people view this as a negative?
"I didn't get all the wood that was promised to me by Gibson!! WAAAAA"
If anything it should resonate and sustain better and sound deeper than a solid body.

You should post this on TGP....start up a new fad ;)

Could you let me know when this is posted? I want to buy shares in xray companies before this fad comes to life.

Makes good fodder to wax philosophical about on internet forums.

I guess...
Does anyone get upset that their $11k D'Aquisto Jazz guitar is hollow?
Does anyone call Martin and complain their D28 is hollow?
LOL! :D
Oh wait... Gibson 335... hmmm isn't that semi-hollow?

"Solid body guitar" or "chambered", which is it?

Multiple threads over there going back to late '07 when all this started. The cork sniffers flair it up about once a year.

I tend to find the lows to be softer with the chambered bodies, i personally like the solid body historics the best and i like them in the 9lb range. I also found the chambered bodies to sound different than the swiss cheese bodies that i also like and i feel still have more wood than the chambered.

The key here is that the classic LP tones everyone wants were made with solid guitars. Not chambered, not weight relieved, solid. I'm not buying an acoustic or 335, I'm buying a LP and I want it to be solid,

I am not slagging anything.

I just wanted to see how much was relieved.

I would concur that the lows are a little soft

Resonance and sustain are essentially opposites. To resonate, the guitar uses more string energy. Sustain comes from the string retaining its energy and not giving it up to the body/neck.

The "exception" to this is a loud electric that is resonating to the point that its actually driving the strings and creating feedback...somewhat different than true sustain.

Wouldn't you be upset if your D28 is mostly solid? It's not about what it is. It's about what the customer is sold. "Weight-relieved" doesn't make me think of a 335. It makes me think of a mostly solid bodied guitar with some relief.

It seems to be quite a big deal on the various LP specific forums as well as general topic gear forums within certain subset circles of LP owners.

Because Gibson charges more for solid bodies/lighter wood, some will sneer/look down on the weight relieved stuff.

So is that 335 you posted "the tone" everyone spaeks about?

9 years and counting, nobody has told me which of 785749037592 LP models is "the tone"

Thats a search only you can find. As for me that guitar or any of the ones I have or had where usually picked by playing many at the store and until my fingers, the Feel, vibration of the wood and strings seemed to become part of my soul.

Only you can find "Your Tone" The search is not for what someone else hears and feels but what you hear and feel. ;) young Jedi.

If someone has to "Tell you" then you might never find it.

Nice try

Every gibson players states only gibson has it but they all have different models.

We can tell different years pups were made, tubes from a same batch, different guitar chords, etc. So I am damn sure the gibson guys can tell ten out of ten chambered vs solid.

points for trying :D

My problem with this chambering is the uncomfortable thought that a robot, with a cutting blade, went nuts on the guitar body, resulting in what you see in the x ray. I like to imagine that there are still men hand tooling these guitars. This ruins that illusion for me!
