Thoughts on the EVM12L?

That's a bummer as all of my speakers are 16 ohms right now. Have you compared an original to the WGS?

I'm not inherently opposed to a knock off if it's good, but also I probably could just get away with an 8 ohm without issue.
No, I haven't compared the two. I'll bet they are pretty close though. I have no complaints about the WGS. They cost slightly less, but if you go and sell yours later, the EVH might hold more value (also true that the slightly higher price may be due to the reputation, earned or not). Hard to say. I've heard peeps say the newer ones aren't as good as the old ones that earned the reputation - but people always yap like that about old stuff. Nostalgia, to some degree.
I ran into a similar problem with matching ohms. I now have a KHE switcher, so I like to run all my amps at the same impedance, and that's 16 - mainly because my two Marshall 4x12's are 16. I'm done plugging and unplugging and plugging...🤦‍♂️

Don't know if they still make them, but back in the early '90s, there was a 16-ohm version, EVM-12L Series II-16.

This is my favorite version of the 12L as well.

I've noticed a pattern, that the vast majority of people who hate the 12L just hate the types of guitar tones that I like, and I hate the guitar tones they like lol

It sounds good for basically anything. If you ever want a speaker that can handle clean, edge of breakup, or high gain, basically anything you can throw at it, the 12L is the most versatile, highest power handling speaker there is

Those Jensen Blackbird 100s surprised me. I didn't think they would be bad, just wasn't prepared for how good they are. In some ways, they remind me of an old alnico EV SRO, just not as loud.
At one point I was thinking, Why didn't I buy two Celestion Gold's instead. But that was just for resale - they are more well known. I'm thrilled with the sound of the Jensen's though. They complement the ENGL setup nicely - more highs. There is a broad spectrum of sounds coming out of the two 2x12's using three speaker types.

The stack on the right is loaded with EV's. I can barely lift the top cab to stack them.

Pretty sure those old Boogie cabs were made of solid lead and therefore capable of surviving a nuclear war. But DAMN they sound good!

What's in the stack on the left? My two are loaded with EVMs in the bottom and C90s in the top.

What a gorgeous sound an old mark with 12Ls is

I've only played one with a thiele cab, I can't imagine how awesome it would be to have 4 12Ls (until I had to move it)

I use a Boss Waza TAE, which is an attenuator with a solidstate power section, so it can handle any ohm speaker thrown at it.

Technically my speaker ohms don't really matter (provided they're between 4 & 16), but I try to keep everything at 16 ohms for simplicity.
If fed from the same mono power source, ss or tube, the two speakers will see wildly different levels of power and put out very different volume levels. Electricity flows like water, and ohms are a measure of resistance.

If the TAE is stereo, with separate channel volumes then you can do it if the cab is wired in stereo. You'll still lose the upper throw of one volume knob if you intend to keep the volumes equal. In stereo you'd be better off with a tube amp as long as it had multiple impedance options per channel.

Nah, I have a Halfback 2x12 with the tolex stripped off. It's just thick plywood, with crazy solid bracing. I also had for a long while a Mesa Trad 4x12 bottom cab. Built just as bombproof. While I've never owned a Mills I will say that Mesa Cabs are the most insanely overbuilt cabs I have ever owned, and that includes a '72 Hiwatt SE412, Bogner 4x12B, Matamp/Electric Amps Green 4x12, and two JCM800 1935 cabs (one Bass and one Lead).

The cabs on the left are loaded with C90's on top and VS-12's in bottom. My favorite speaker is the MS-12.
