Time vs. money for a refret

6 months is unacceptable.
I would go where you will get the guitar back in 30 days.

One man show and that long of a wait scares me, say your guitar gets lost or something happens to the guy, how do you get your stuff back?

I have paperwork from dropping it off that has the serial number and pictures of the guitar including the serial number. It's a chance I don't mind taking. He's damn good.

He even offers to keep the nibs, but I opted not to. It's not a custom shop or anything.

If he is that good, see if you can get him to out in writing a date when it will be done, 90 days would be a decent compromise.

Nah. I've been taking guitars to him for at least 15 years. Not once have I ever had something not returned or had something come back with less than stellar work. If it takes a really long time, he will cut you a break on price and his quote for a stainless refret, including a new bone nut, was about $250 less than the guy I used last year. I'm OK waiting.
