I remember this thread - glad to see it has a bit of life in it again. Yo ttosh, hope you're well if you get a chance to read this again - been a while since you've been kicking. And to see Barzini's addition to the commentary

Classic...

As for tone, it's hard to say, I feel that the amps and guitars and all that are simply the tools. My analogy stands firm, that some of the best guitarists and my most influential (and I am sure some of your most influential) did so much on so little. That's what gets ya good - it's not jumping from one axe to another to a different amp to a different effect to a different cable to a different cab to a different power supply to a different guitar [repeat ad infinitum]; it's sticking to the basics and making those basics advance into your groove and tone.

Peace :salute:

I remember this thread barely. Thanks for the wishes Ventura, I appreciate them. Over the last year I have gotten a good lesson in the blues, separation from a wife, working to keep things strong with my two daughters and not touching a guitar my lives passion up until about a month ago.

Coming back full circle and only playing acoustic for the last month I have to say I still agree with this post. I sound like me on an acoustic or plugged into a Marshall, Bogner, Diezel, etc... I will stand by the fact that amps cater to specific genres of music better than others, but the ultimate tone is 70/30 in string touch, vibrato, note choice which counts towards tone since it can have a major impact on how pleasing something really sounds on 1 or 11....

I hope to be back online from time to time. I notice a lot of my friends have moved on from the board, digi, donbarz, etc... I hope they are doing well.

Tim, Good to see you. Wish you the best. Sorry about your Wife.

Gary, Good to see you are still here. Thanks for the wishes, we are amicable and working on things at this time. Trying to put some pieces back together. I remember quite a few forumites went through divorce and separation while I was active. Never seemed easy, but had no idea how difficult it really is.

Talk to you and V. in PM's as to not muddy up this thread any more.....

Tim, what a coincidence! I was actually just thinking the other day that we hadn't heard from you in a long while.

Sorry to hear about the turmoil in your life, but glad to hear you are working through it. Everything day-by-day, right?

Anyways, glad to see you back. Yeah, we've lost a few over the past year or so, which makes an unexpected return such as yours all the sweeter!

Hope to see you around more often!

I am trying to drive the prices down so I can get one.

id say you're on the right track, no pun intended

Put CCV in title, lets see this thread skyrocket!!!!!!

told you, 84 views to over 350

Yes you were very correct!!
Tone is not in the fingers. Good playing is in the fingers attatched to the brain. Tone is made up of many factors The amp, tubes ,cables, power source, picks, pickups, guitars, cabs, speakers. Whoever says it is in the fingers go ask EVH why he spent so much time on his listed above gear.

Then why did Ted Nugent say when he played through Eddies gear he sounded nothing like Eddie and that magical tone was not there, then Eddie picked it up and bingo!!!! Why does Rockstah produce amazing VH tone in his clips with his mod amps, and others that play VH stuff on it sounds nothing like the Van Halen tone? Same amp and same gear, different hands. I really wonder!!!!!

I seriously can't believe you guys haven't figured it out yet.

And the whole time it being right under your noses.

When I play through my Mod 5, it sounds exactly like early VH, and I'm no Eddie or Rockstah...
