I love Vai. Going to see him next month at my favorite venue in Cleveland. Should be about my 8th time including his stints with DLR and Whitesnake.

Like him or not, he is a true artist.

I think Dirks is a good interviewer. She asks the right questions down to string gauges. The problem is the sound levels could have been better and the camera-work is awful.

The guy's navigating though a room full of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Give me a break!

The guy shot it like Blaire Witch   Give me a break. PG's interviews are totally unprofessional and shipshod at best. Only bright spot is Dirks.

Maybe he's trying not to break anything? I dunno. Only guy I can't stand is the guy with the hat and goatee.

you mean this guy....

The interviewer was ok, but that stupid color throughout the video ruined it. Ridiculous.

If that what goes as good editing and creative layout these days I guess I'm just out of the loop. Didn't get the memo.

Brilliant. Proper Audio, good filming. REAL editing. And you can clearly see Brian is a true pro, great interview skills and he knows how to keep it rolling.
I would venture to say that with better production the premier guitar videos would really pop. I would call them but I doubt they could afford it, otherwise it would already be there. Dunlop just has better budgets apparently.
:)

If you think his interviewing is good just wait till you hear him play...

They need to get rid of the mic holding. What if it fell on a guitar? studio board? not smart. Dirks needs to show some cleavage as well.

I really enjoyed the whole thing, great collection of guitars and effects...should be able to get any sound he can think of.

One thing I was wondering about they didn't mention-is Vai still using those True Temperament fretted necks, I didn't see any on any of the guitars they showed...there were pics in some magazine of them even on his couple of favorite axes?

One other comment he missed the boat on a bit, waseven though his Jem series has been going strong for 25 years, Les Paul has him beat by a few years in the signature guitar dept.

Oh if you think she's a bad interviewer(which she isn't) go watch some other PG ones, those idiots remind me of the local Guitar Center rejects.

Not saying I have seen every vid Vai is in but I have NEVER seen those frets other than one time and IMO they are only brought up on the JEM forum which I put very little stock in as that forum is nothing but under the bed collectors for the most part aside from a few cool guys that play their Ibanez stuff.

Rich is cool though.

That fret system is something that only real musicians can appreciate, most players do not understand why this was created, you have to know theory etc to appreciate this kind of stuff, it is the only real solution to the actual known guitar tuning issues, all the other known systems are marketing and will not work once you poke a chord.

Having said that, it is a very expensive system because the frets are actually cast (not bent like most would think) and the cuts are being precision CNC cut, this is not a simple little gadget system for forum teens, it really DOES work.

Vai explains the system in this video so that the average player can understand what its all about but if you want detailed explications, I recommend you check out the True Temperament website: http://www.truetemperament.com/site/index.php?go=4&sgo=0

They can also fret a guitar for an adaptation of the Meantone Intonation and of COURSE because it sounds so perfect and in tone, it all of a sudden sounds like shit!

This video here shows the CNC cutting:

Mattias IA Eklundh also uses that system on his guitars...
