I can say, without doubt, my folks wouldn't have liked VH if they had internet access to everyone forum on the planet in every room of the house.
No doubt!!!mine too ( Though my mom was impressed when I played Spanish Fly for her( not me personally, the record)

I was actually referring to parents or the older generation having a better Idea of what kids are into these days as opposed to when we were growing up..

In all seriousness, don't you think it's unrealistic to place expectations in such a place that the bar would be the stuff they did 30 years ago when they were in their prime? I don't know of anyone, AC/DC included, that are producing material that rivals the stuff they did in their prime....at least sticking with same genre. Of course, I guess this is just my opinion.

To be honest, not really. Where music is concerned, I dont think that its that much of an issue except where maybe vocals are concerned( as in trying to hit really high notes etc). There are plenty of guys out there that are bringing it as good today as they did in their back in their heyday...

In the end, Im really excited and hopeful and in the event that its something that I just dont dig, at the very least, the guy that inspired me so much when I was younger is still out there playing and putting out music. regardless of my expectations, the impact that he had on me will always have me buying whatever he puts out..

I was the same and now it's kinda growing on me. Plus all the butt hurt it's created has made the entertainment level even higher. :D

FTR I don't want to know what a swap meet salad is.

I dont know if Id qualify it as butthurt, not everyone is going to like everything for one reason or another..

Ive listened a few more times today and Ive kind of plateaued at my current level of liking it more than first listen. Its like "Ok, whats next?" Who knows? maybe live this tune will rock alot harder and that could be pretty cool...

Im guessing that swap meet salad is just another in a long string of DLRism's . I may have to use that in the real world just to see what kind of reaction it gets...

I'll clarify.... not everyone's comment of not liking it is what I would consider butt hurt but oh yes there is butt hurt in this thread.

I'm sorry, but this sucks. I love VH and can find something to appreciate in every album so far. I want to like it, but the video seems awkward and the song is boring for a single.

I agree!!! Really sucks!!! Hope the rest of the album/CD is much better!!!

If it is butthurtness, I kinda understand. I was a HUGE metallica fan in the 80's. I've had plenty of time to get over it though lol

Oh, swap MEAT Sally?

Not bad...just about what I expected
Late to the party as I'm not a mega VH fan... But agree with the above.

I will say I totally prefer the vocal style and schmooze of DLR over Sammy any day for this kind of Americana rock/music...

I personally really like it and I am really looking forward to the cd release..
Can I get change for 2 cents? :)

Love me some VH, but not impressed with the first single choice.

After 14 years of no new album of music from the VH camp, and about 28 years since any new music from DLR-era VH, I think making this song the public's first exposure to the DLRVH MKII is certainly questionable. They say you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Funny, but I think Van Halen/DLR broke that rule -- they had that chance yesterday, AGAIN. Come back in with a bang and not a yawn, please...

On the flip side, usually with VH, the single has never been the best song on the album, so I will have faith that there will be at least one great song on the upcoming album.

Is that the Fair Warning cover on your guitar? That's awesome!

I like their last song better, hmmmm hang on........ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXafvx8Tn1g&feature=fvst
Man, if the new VH song was this good, people would send the new record multiplatinum.

Sammy and Michael are definitely having the last laugh. And I say that as a huge VH fan, hoping beyond hope that they could put out some good new music. But props to Chickenfoot...
Agreed, Chickenfoot are smokin', they have everytthing going on which VH lacks on this new stuff.

The song is a little better if you DON'T watch the video, I think. Ta-too, ta-too!

The missing element (for me) aside from a loud, bright guitar, is Mike's backing vocals. They made Me Wise and Stuff much better.

Gotta say, I like this much better than Chickenfoot (aka generic-geriatric rock). This has personality and that quirky DLR vibe. I wouldn't have chosen it as the lead single, though. And I agree that the guitar tone is questionable.

I Have heard there is some Rockers on the record it's gonna be awesome

You know, I heard this tune on the radio this morning and it kind of works in that context. It was pretty awesome to be able to crank some new VH on the drive the to work. It's hard to drive and not crank that tune even if its not the greatest thing they ever did or anything.
