Ventura, you are always a good read.

Great thoughts about the Hagen. I brought my Bogner ported 1x12 with a Scumback M75 100w to my local GC to test the Hagen with and loved it. The K100 cabs that Diezel always ships just take the Hagen-ness out of it.
Thanks man, yep, the Hagen is a beautiful amp - and it's a players amp - to me?? It's the next thing to "evolve" from the original VH4. Take that for what it's worth.

VH4 sounds better than all those amps!
I beg to differ but therein lies the BEAUTY of tone - it's ALL in the ear of the beholder

But the VH4 sure as shit ain't no slouch - it's a tank - it's unique - it's global. It's "the" VH4. However, if you get a chance to plug into a Hagen and crank up the MV past Madison Square Bedroom levels, you'll be blown away with the swirl... It's sublime.

Get back to shredding.
Peace!!

I’ve had a lot of experience with the first three but not the Hagen.

I’d pick the SLO. VH4 is a monster but just was too polished for me. BE was too dark I think. SLO just sings and breathes in an incredible way.

Just something about a SLO. It just grabs you and wants you to keep playing. It’s like your fingers are welded straight to the speakers. It’s just got feel

For only one amp I vote for Hagen. Especially for live playing. Hagen has 4 channels, has midi, 3 great fx loops(I think it’s done better way than on vh4) and it has 2 master volumes, so you can use any channel for your rhythm, and any of them for soloing with another master volume set louder.
Very underrated amp, I think as years go by it will get more and more attention, as vh4 and Herbert.

My only issue with the Hagen is when you do turn it up loud (and I do play loud, very loud)... the bottom doesn't hold together as well as the VH4 or Herbert. It mushes out. It's not as tight, defined, articulate as the VH4/Herbert. It's swirls. Like a soggy Trisucit. And who likes a soggy Triscuit.
:bleh:

The Hagen would be my pick if I was playing mostly classic rock or hard rock... '70s rock tones it handles wonderfully. Modern stuff -> Herbert/VH4.

YMMV.

I think that is fair, it isn't as tight as the VH4, but what it loses there it gains in the transient gain. That is always a trade-off. The only amp that I have experience that somehow holds together in both scenarios is the KT88 version of the 20th Shiva. But then that amp goes the route of being biased cold (a la the old PV 5150) in order to handle the resonance at higher volumes.

Can’t remember but aren’t the VH4’s power tube sockets chassis mounted? Whereas the Hagen is board mounted.
