Afd sounds better to me in that vid.
It does to me too BUT Im going to reserve judgement until I get to actually play and hear the thing in person. The concept of the head and what it represents is pretty friggin cool; Old School with a bunch of cool modern features. It could be something as simple as the demo guy just not dialing it in right as silly as that sounds.

I dont pay a whole bunch of attention to clips or vids but you get some idea. Theres just something about this head in particular that makes me think that its a lot better than wht we're hearing but what do I know?

Agree with ^^

It looks really cool to me. I guess the overall volume control is lowering the voltages for the power section giving it much less headroom or something like that. I wonder if that means the power tubes are cold clipping like some 12ax7's in cheaper mic pre's or if that's only bias related i.e. crossover distortion from bias too low. I know just enough to hurt myself so if a knowledgeable person can se me straight I will not squirt a drop ;)

So Yngwie's using his prototype which is built old school style, like Slashes prototype was?
i was thinking the same thing!!  I do like the idea of a plexi with boost and power scaling etc and want to try it out in person, I want to see some gut shots as I was un impressed with the innards of the production afd, I hope they used the marshall 1959 ri platform to start with and not something that looks like a dvd player inside.

Is this model going to be a limited run? When will it be available?

Yes, it will be a limited run.

will it have a choke like the AFD100?

I hope so. When I find out for sure, I'll let you know.
Cheers,

Did everyone see that video of Chris George talking to one of the forum members and demoing the YJM and AFD? At the end of the video, he turned the power scaling way up (or is it way down), and played the YJM at bedroom levels, yet you could still hear the dynamics and low end chunk, even at those super low volumes. WAY better than any attenuator! Way better than most master volumes too, IMHO of course.
What drives me nuts is in all the videos you see the rear end of the YJM, and not the classic front panel. Maybe it would be cooler if the added controls were put on the TOP of the giant head cabinet, instead of on the rear panel where you have to turn the amp around to fiddle!?
Of course the heat from the tubes would melt everything on top...

I like the fact that Marshall grew some balls and did something other than just say it's a sig amp,but I'd like to hear Dave Friedmans opinion on this amp,if he's checked it out yet,and if it's a keeper.
