Want a customised Mesa Boogie amp?

Yeah, I called Mesa to ask about just the headshell because I already have the amp. They quoted me $600 and six months. Or $150 for just the jute faceplate that I can install on the headshell I already have. But there's no easy way to remove the treadplate. It's glued on.

I asked about just sending my current headshell in to replace the treadplate. They said no, they don't do that.

The other option is just return the amp to Sweetwater, then order it again with the headshell I want. And that's actually "free". No upcharge for the options I want (black jute). But it's a 6-month wait.

Two options I'm considering.

I guess $600 isnt too much of a markup compared to what youd get from someone else tbh. Some of the options I saw on there were insane though price wise.

I do thing the all black looks much better. If that's the one you want, for free (which cant be beat) time is the trade off.

I would imagine with your stable you can go 6 months without a DR

Not from the configurator but there’s something about this that’s kind of sexy

I’ve got an itch for a Triple Rect… it would be cool if it came like the one on the bottom

This Custom Amp Configurator from Sweetwater and Mesa Boogie lets you design the amp of your wildest dreams https://share.google/n3nT1W0VnVUVyvThD
I like choices but this feels like the Gibson-ization of Mesa, making it into a marketing brand to go with their lifestyle stuff instead of focusing on the amplifiers themselves. I guess sort of like Marshall making more money on bluetooth speakers than amps?

Mesa has always offered these options. This is just the first time they've had an online configurator for people to play with.

I would go black knobs, silver plate, for legibility (on stage).

I had those silver dome knobs in the past (stock) on my Engl SE EL34 (which I've sold later on). Hated them. Replaced them myself. Besides, the original Savage knobs were the best Engl ever came up with. Same with the fugly chrome logo; gimme brushed steel any day of the week.
Shiny shit like chrome is for poseurs, magpies and Kardashians. :cautious:

Caring enough about aesthetics to actually change all those knobs on your amp is about as Kardashian as it gets.

Shut up and let us play. I don't even need another amp right now, but I'm building them. The red ones look cool.

I do the same shit on Kiesel's website from time to time. I don't want a Kiesel, but it's fun to fuck with.

Guess you missed the part where I wrote about legibility on stage. Nothing to do with 'oh this looks more fancy', buddy.
But sure, have fun trying to determine whatever a shiny chrome dome knob with a 1mm black dot as a marker is set to, on a dimly lit stage, on an amp with a gazillion knobs and wondering why your sound doesn't match the awesomeness of yesterday's gig... \:D/

I remember these options being available wayyy before Gibson bought them out… I’m not saying the Badlander was a Bad amp, but ever since Gibson took over Mesa they have stopped putting IR loaders and loadbox junk inside the amps and have released old amps that people want.

Do people want Mesa to fail because Gibson bought them? Their prices are a bit steep but they released a standard version of the dual rectifier with diamond plate and no chrome faceplate for $500 less. Being that it’s actually good sounding, I don’t think that’s so bad because in a few years they will be on the hard market for less.

Having said all that, if I needed 1 full sized amp that needed to be new and money was tight I would get the 6505 original 1992 fo sho
