Want a customised Mesa Boogie amp?

you tried one? They seem good in all the shootout videos I’ve seen. Kinda hard to forkout big money like that just to buy American (I did though)
Extensively..
Have to say I agree with both of you.. 6505 is a better value at half the cost.. but if you have a kidney to spare a dual rec is a dual rec.. you can feel a step up in quality I just wouldn’t say it’s worth twice as much.. So many selections in that $4k range.. I personally went used.. For some reason everyone was giving shit away around my neck of the woods last year & scored a 5150 block letter, 5150ii, dual rec multiwatt, & a blackout multiwatt for $500 more than 1 brand new 90s reissue dual rec.. $200 more from a custom wrapped one.. If you have $ to blow & either are your thing I get it.. Do what makes you happy. I don’t love either enough to buy new. I’d rather grab a vintage rectifier off Exo before going that route. That’s just me tho.

Damn, those are some scores! I planned on getting one of those chrome faceplate versions used after a year or so. There’s actually one on reverb for a $2400 asking price… that is tempting. I would do that in a heartbeat over the 6505 1992 original - I didn’t know the dual recs were going for that low!

I think the chrome faceplate ones will hold value a little bit more since the diamond plate just got announced for $500 less. But the biggest reason I decided against these routes is because I would much rather have a Triple Rectifier and also I don’t know what Gibson/Mesa is going to do. They might improve the 3 channel multi-watt and release that and I can’t get amps like I catch Pokémon out in the pastures…

I did buy a used Orange Dual Dark white limited version recently and over-paid possibly but I have a soft spot for Orange amps. I also think they are an awesome company and if they stay true to their vision, that will only help with resale if I have to move them but hopefully I never have to sell anything. If they do an OR120 to follow up on the OR60 I won’t be able to resist holy crap I’m going off topic

Yeah, I called Mesa to ask about just the headshell because I already have the amp. They quoted me $600 and six months. Or $150 for just the jute faceplate that I can install on the headshell I already have. But there's no easy way to remove the treadplate. It's glued on.

I asked about just sending my current headshell in to replace the treadplate. They said no, they don't do that.

The other option is just return the amp to Sweetwater, then order it again with the headshell I want. And that's actually "free". No upcharge for the options I want (black jute). But it's a 6-month wait.

Two options I'm considering.

I think the diamond plate is just held on with double sticky back tape along the sides, so hitting it with a heat gun for a bit will release the adhesive. Some tinfoil over the sides of the tolex would prevent any damage to it while you heat the diamond plate.
