Before Dave could get Marty to play on a Megadeth solo . Didn’t see that coming . No Kirk didn’t play it . But he wrote it . I think that’s what’s shocking about this . I thought Dave would have showed us his way

Mave did ok job attempting to play a Hammett solo. The original is so good so why to change it. 🤷‍♂️

I love the guitar tones on this one. Dave's vocals are a bit off putting on first listen. I guess I'm too used to hearing James for anyone else to sound right singing

This is awesome. Sounds way better than the original while being pretty much the same.

Better production, tone and playing. Definitely killer although I have to admit I laughed out loud when I heard the first note of the vocals  the vocals do NOT sound better but it's Dave, you get used to them and ive never had a problem listening to Megadeth.

Both ways can be good but I typically prefer a cover that is true to the music which is this. Same song but better, definitely cool.

I still don't think this will be enough for Dave, I think like someone else said in another thread he just needs therapy lol....or maybe a pegging from Lars would do the trick?

Honestly I prefer this to the original by a lot. Better production at all stages, better guitar playing, much better guitar tone, vocals slightly different but Hetfield is no Pavarotti either.

I probably don't have the attachment to Metallica some people do.

Metallica should hire whoever does the production for Megadeth, it does a much better job than Metallica’s modern albums.

The cover is nice, there’s some tiny bits of added flavour to the guitars here and there that sound refreshing after hearing the same song for 30 years.

The voice is clearly what keeps it down. And it’s a super processed Mustaine voice, imagine what would sound like if they play this live, like a bunch of cats fucking on stage.

Or honestly most of Metalica's albums. Metalica's original ride the lightning sounds like it was recoded in a garbage can and mixed by muppets. The remaster made the garbage can louder.

It's not as bad as I thought it would be. I guess Dave tuned down because it would be easier on his voice. The original RTL album was kind of frustrating to play along to because the songs would be sharp here, in tune there, so you alway had to adjust your tuning between songs.

Also, is it possible Kirk wrote the lead and maybe Dave is just giving some respect by playing it? I actually like the solo more than the entire song.

I think it depends on the song. Original production on the song Ride The Lightning didn't make the song any favours, that’s true.

Master of Puppets is WAY better. Of course it also had a credited professional mixer.

Then we get to Justice and the overall production is much better but the actual mix is so bad we still talk about Jason Newsted being MIA to this day :D

That was fun. Of course the vocals aren't great (entire album seems like this) but just about everything else about it was better than the original.

There's some serious knob-slobberin' fanboyism in here...
