Lets be transparent. If you want to build a humbuckers with correct, not budget parts or Chinese made garbage. So, you cannot even get the parts for a couple dollars as you he ignorantly claims. $22 for me 3 years ago personally if I want proper alloy metal parts that yield predictable and reliable results. This doesn’t account for the time it takes to source from multiple vendors, shipping, etc. Okay. Now regardless of hand winding or machine winding it time to make pickups. You can't automate the assembly and the potting takes time to ensure coil saturation.


Since he seem so knowledge on how business works, how much does it cost and how long does it take to factor in logistics, emails, shop rent, utilities, taxes, healthcare, marketing and other business related costs?

I love it when people try to simplify or justify optimism without placing value on the non-material costs. I guess he want people to work for free and minimizes any tonal impact people hear in their tone

Please tell me where I can source my parts for single digit dollars? Further more, who’s getting rich from it?

Between $50-100 per pound spool just for wire depending on if you go poly or plain enamel.


A 1-pound (1 lb) spool of 42 AWG magnet wire contains roughly 50,000 to 51,000 feet of wire. This is enough to wind about 10 to 12 single-coil pickups (like Stratocaster style) or 4 to 6 humbucker pickups

I'm well aware his math ain't mathing, that's a given

But i'm making a more general point about the people who complain about pickup prices. They always have shitty tone.

They always say the same things, exaggerating about how cheap the parts are with no thought given to the time and expertise involved in making pickups that actually sound good.

But they also always have really shitty tone. So it ends up being self-incriminating.
