What's the consensus on the mesa JP-2C sig head?

killer amp
it's a Mesa, so you need to take your time with it as there are many ways to balance the controls
they have made it easier than the original and the MkIV which have tiny sweet spots
it ain't no Friedman - which I also have and also love - where there is less of a range on tap

Been curious about the JP2C, but I have never tried one. What has kept me away are a couple of things. first the cleans are described as very clean, which is not for me. Also, it seems the only way to get crunch is to crank the clean channel up. I know for most players of the JP2C these are probably little deals, but for me, versatility is what I am after and my mark IVA is still good to me. I even can get very good tones from R2 :)

While we're here, how does the V 25 compare to the big V and others like III, IV, JP2C etc?

I had the V 25 for a while but sold it (for a tidy profit) as I got tired of it after a while. It wasn't that loud and just sounded small no matter what. The Mark character was there but the bottom end just seemed so small compared to my other amps. Got a bit over the GEQ and the strange eq controls etc. I like the immediacy of it the most and how it can stop dead straight away, but maybe a bit too suited for thrash metal on high gain than other genres IMO.
I can only compare the Mark V:25 to the Mark IVa;
yes, you'll lose some low-end push and bloom, but the awesome Crunch mode in channel 1 makes up for it. The IV's R2 was lacklustre to me.
Also, the cleans of the small one are still beautiful; probably the best in a lunchbox head.

If you turn off the shred mode in channel 2, keep the gain amd treble below noon amd the knobs pushed in, it does a crunch very well. Much much better channel 2 on the jp-2c than on the mk IV. It has the ability to give you three actuall channels. Clean crunch and whatever you want the third to be.

Cool to know its in there, most clips focus on the high gain with the JP2C. I did find the secret to the R2 on the IVA is running the gain lower, using the 5 band EQ, and boosting with a klone or tubescreamer. R2 is the weakest channel on the mark IVA for sure.

This is a great head that is really versitile. I have two of them, rackmount and regular head version. The head is for sale because I really don't need two. :confused: It really shines in a live mix. Very pleased with it overall.

Well I can’t contribute much to exactly the sound of it since I’ve never tried one, but since asking consensus, I would add that I’d love to have one. Just have never lined up right when I was looking. I love the sounds and reviews I’ve seen when I have researched it.
