zvex box of rock!

The boost section on that thing rocks! Great and powerful clean boost, but I've been having issues with the distortion side.

For me its:

Distortion - MI Audio Crunchbox
Mid Gain OD - HBE Plank Cranker, with honorable mention to the Hermida Mosferatu
Low Gain OD - MI audio Blues Boy Deluxe, runner up is the Hermida Zendrive. I still like the stock Maxon OD-9 or OD-808 with my fenders though....

Dude, where in Houston are you? I'm just west of downtown.

Does anyone else prefer overdrive to distortion? I rather have a good OD pedal and put a clean boost through it to get a hotter signal than use an actual distortion pedal. The only distortion pedal I've ever REALLY liked was the MI Audio Tube Zone, but that thing can do it all.

I have never really liked 'metal' distortions and generally like OD's better than distortion pedals. I really like the MI audio crunch box for old school metal tonens, but I find it lacking for anything heavier. Will the tube zone get me there? I have wanted to check one out for a while now....

I'd say so. The T.Z. can get pretty heavy. If I ever went the "distortion pedal into a clean amp" route, that would be the pedal I would get. I play mostly rock, but I do like the chugga-chugga's every now and then. I remember some clips Ed D. did a while back that were killer.

Catalinbread silver kiss. Transparent and sounds killer.

I"m glad to hear this! I'm very excited to try the TZ and Crunch Box out next week-end...hell I might just pick up both. I hear the TZ take a little while to "bond with" though...is that true?

For OD, I really like the Plank Cranker. Alot... I experimented with it into the Peacemaker run clean the other day and to my surprised, the "Crank" mode sounded killer! That mode is for boosting an already distorted amp, but it sounded GREAT into a clean amp.

Anyway, I just got a ToneBone Classic and it seems okay so far. I had a Crunchbox and wish I still did to compare these two. Anyone have a Crunchbox they want to trade to me for some misc. items?
chris would you like your ocd back? i do not intend to use it .
