What's your Poison - 4X12 or 2X12 for Close Mic Recording?

First of all I do not agree that 1x12 recorded sounds better than 2x12 or 4x12. They all have their disadvantages & advantages. 2nd - if you a have a 4x12 & you want 1x12-sh flavor, you don't need to cover other speakers, just disconnect them. Use the whole 4x12 for a single speaker, which will most likely sound much better than the 1x12 anyway.
 
OK, I tried blocking out three of the speakers in my 4X12 and then recording the remaining speaker. I did NOT like the results. The sound was definitely thinner and also had an annoying nasal quality to it. I tried a bunch of mic positions and was not able to really get rid of those qualities. I uncovered the other three speakers and the recordings improved dramatically...TOO MY EARS AND TASTE! :D

For now, I'm sticking with the 4X12 cab. :lol: :LOL:
