Cabinet for EVH 5150 III Stealth 100W

I'm about to pull the trigger on a new 4X12 cabinet.
What do you guys recommend?

I play only at home. Will a 2X12" work well with amp. For example the mathing cabinet?

Honestly man depends on what you're after.


If you want vintage/modern check out a Friedman with V30s and Greenbacks.


If you want 16 ohm cab with modern tones check out a Bad Cat 412 with UK V30s. Soldano makes one too I believe.


Honestly can't go wrong with a Marshall 1960 AV/BV with Marshall Vintage speakers which are their UK V30 Proprietary speakers in 70 watt..... A pretty good value for what it is.


I wouldn't recommend the EVH cab here because given the wattage it's slightly under powered as the EVH Greenback speakers are rated for 20 watts each. Maybe some are willing to take the risk and say okay 80 watts should be good enough but IMO with amps and good amps like these you don't want to fuck around and take a risk as such and it really is better to be safer than sorry when it comes to wattage/ohm IMO and IME.


An Alternative to the EVH cab which wouldn't be exactly the same would be a Marshall 1960 AHW or BHW. These come with 70th Anniversary G12H30 and more of a straight up vintage flavored speaker.


All the cabs mentioned have been 16 ohm loads and that is something to consider as well


Depending on what you're after also consider Mesa 412 Traditional or Oversized cabs but I believe those are only 8 ohms vs 16 ohms in mono like the others mentioned.

Also consider with the Friedman mentioned you're getting 100 watts as although the V30s are 60 watts the wattage goes to 25 watts as it's paired with a Greenback at 25 watts so your total power handling is 100 watts not 170 watts. I do think they make 412 V30 versions that arent mixed with Greenbacks but yeah not entirely sure.

So it would have the wattage but just enough if you go for one loaded with V30s and Greenbacks.


The Marshall 1960 AHW/BHW while at 120 Watts as the 70th Anniversary are 30 watts each again barely gives a bit more wattage than needed but wouldnt worry about it unless you plan on pushing it to 10 or something on volume and its more about headroom and tone you're after.


Definitely something to consider aside from ohms in regards to headroom. In this sense the Marshall 1960 AV/BV would provide a bit more headroom than even a fully loaded V30 Cab. A Marshall 1960 AV/BV would be 280 watt cab vs a 240 Watt cab with a cab loaded with standard V30s such as in a Mesa or Bad Cat.

Consider your dimensions but yeah 212 but I wouldn't go for the matching cab again because of the wattage. The 212 EVH has a max power handling of 60 Watts and not entirely sure about the dimensions.


You're better off with a Marshall 212 with their Vintage speakers in them or Friedman, Bad Cat, Mesa 212 with V30s.


Or honestly would consider a Boss Waza 212 cab and that would offer a shit ton of power in a 212 format as the speakers are rated at 100 watts each. The speakers are great and those cabs are solid too. They are consideribly more affordable than some of the other options and IMO you're getting some really great speakers that are essentially 100 Watt Greenbacks with more balls and grit.

The EVH 4 x 12 cabs are killer ........... I have four of the " Eddie " backs in a Marshall cab ...... and run 100 watt heads all day long into it

I would recommend the matching EVH 412 cab. I would be leery about using the 212 EVH cab as it is only rated for 60 watts. If you want a 212, something like the Friedman or a Mesa 212 would be a better choice, IMHO.

No they aren't....... They are 20 watts so again if you're running a 100 Watt head you are running the risk of damaging the amp.

For example the 212 EVH cabs used to come with these two but also were switched out for 70th Anniversary to add extra wattage.

The EVH Cab is completely fine. as long as the wattage matches the head it should be completely fine unless running the head full blast which in that case it's just dumb. The 1960BHW is 120 watts. both are completely fine to use countless bands have used the EVH Cabs with no problems.

Mmmmm..... Right on me I wouldn't do it. Main reason they went from two of these 20 watts to 30 watt 70th anniversary for the 212 because it wasn't even enough to power the 50 watt head safely.....


Maybe some are willing to take the risk or it is safe but for me and amps I rather be safe than sorry especially when it comes to wattage/ohms and use the appropriate power handling for amp.

Built for the 50 watt heads......


As said not even the previous 212 iterations could safely power a 50 watt head and this is why they move to using 70th Anniversary in the 212 cabs.

The 412s don't have enough power handling to safely run a 100 Watt head..... Again you are free to do so at your own risk. Me I just don't fuck around like that because I don't have 3 thousand dollars to blow but that's me
