I am ordering a timber wolf bridge for a les paul custom. I wanted to go with a JB and was told these were like to older JB so not as harsh in the upper mids. Is this accurate from users?

And what neck would you pair with this? I am tempted to get a marshallhead bridge so that I can maybe use that down the road as a bridge pickup if I wanted. But worried that 9k is too much for a neck.

9k is a little hot for a neck pickup in Les Paul. Might be good for using for neck leads but cleans are going to be woofy

The JB is going to be quite a bit hotter than the TW. I have TW in my SG and it’s a killer pickup. Great open, organic tone and cleans up nice with the guitars volume

Really? Im confused now because they read the same output and both A5.

The JB‘s going to sound more aggressive even the the output is somewhat close

Ok, good to know. Might have saved myself here. I was told that they were close.

How do you think the JB and Aldrich stack up?

Similar in output with the JB having more zing. For me, I’m a big Aldrich fan in an LP but haven’t tried a TW in there. I can only assume it would sound great though just not quite as hot sounding. The Aldrich splits really well too.

The TW is at 15k vs JB at 16.6k. The question is if he’s using 43awg wire wound hot or 44awg wire wound less hot to get at 15k. You could get a 15k that’s wound as hot as a JB since it’s the number of winds (and magnet) that determines output, not resistance

I am putting this in a LP Custom. I had a set of JB/59 for it but I gave them to my friend for his LPC. We put them in yesterday and I regret giving them away. They sound great. But I ordered a set of Aldrich in the meantime. So I am going to install those.

But I have 2 LPC and was going to put the Timber in the other but not if its not as hot. I like that sound.

The reason I want to go wolftone is because I have a set of marshalhead mk2 that were in a light SG that sounded great.

The Aldrich neck is awesome too

I recently picked up a Wolfetone Monkey Bucker / Marshallhead Bridge set from Tonesfoyobones here in the classifieds. I was struggling finding the right combo for my G0' as the guitar is on the bright side. This combo just kills, it is the best balance tone for this LP imho.

If you're getting something JB-ish for your LP, get a Duncan Jazz for the neck. I really like them in the neck and they combine well with a JB.

JB needs 250k pots, or ~125k total load. Without that, they are over bright/harsh. This is much more vital than age, though a JBJ with a RCA5 is going to be the superior specimen.

Good advice. I always go 500k but you are right, they can be too aggressive.

Pretty close set up here as well.... I just installed a Timbre Wolf bridge in my R0 and it slays. Pairs really well with my Marshallhead neck... best she's sounded to date. :)

What did you have in there before? Are you familiar with the JB? How does it compare?

I had the Marshallhead set... which is great and organic.. Wolfe makes some great sounding and feeling pickups for sure. The Timbre Wolf is much hotter but still retains the clarity, punch... still cleans up decent enough... and organic and full. Im more of a Hard Rock guy playing high gain... the Timbre Wolf just has that bit more sizzle and grind I like.

Sorry, haven't played a JB in many years.... so can't compare since Ive forgotten how the JB sounds and feels. For me... Im going Wolfetone everytime tho... with a tip of the cap to Bareknuckle and Suhr for what they do. Cheers

Yeah for sure, first time I ever tried Wolfetone. So glad I was able to get a great deal on the set.
