Would you buy/play a guitar with no tone control?

Never owned many guitars with tone pots except a few Ibanez's that I bypassed the tone pots on...
I have always been a 1 Volume knob, 3 way switch guitar owner.. mostly anyways..

I have a few with just volume.
But if you are gigging, try rolling back the tone a little bit.
Your leads will cut through a little clearer.
More focused mids.
Try it, you may like it

I usually disable mine.

Can you explain the process? I would love to try that. I've read that will open up the natural sound of the pickups and I would like to find out for myself. Thanks

Depends on the guitar, but I usually just cut the wire going to the volume pot.

This only works for single wire tone circuit where the tone pot connects to the input lug of the volume knob. DONT do this for any other type of wiring lol! Especially any that are 'Master tone'

It's subtle but if you don't use your tone knob at all then yes I think it can sound a little livelier with it bypassed. YMMV.

What's a tone knob?  ; That must be the other 2 knobs on my les pauls...

They are helpful when used correctly. Can actually fatten the tones of the guitar.

My favorite guitar had no tone knob.
I never use the tone knobs on the guitars I have anyway....but I like the signal hitting the front of my amp to be as bright as possible.

The only time I ever use the tone control is with the neck pickup and I'll only roll it maybe half way back for leads and cleans. I've had guitars with no tone knob before though and it didn't bother me one bit :D

I'm thinking about having a custom built for me, and it's not going to have tone control. I play metal and have never touched the control on my Ibanez JS series.

I never use the tone knob. Both my guitars have no tone knobs (PGMs). I do not feel like anything is missing in my life.

ergo, I would have no problem buying a guitar with no tone knob.

i found, after intensive trials, that my knob requires very little fiddling with in order to achieve explosive results

tone knobs are totally worthless on guitars.

disengaged. always

Minute man

on 2 knob guitars, I pretty much always turn the tone into a volume pot for the neck pickup. far more useful to me to be in the middle position and roll down one volume or the other a little bit for different tonal options. I could use a guitar with only 1 volume knob though most of the time. If you use the tone knob alot for most of your playing then I don't know. Like you said, can always add if the cavity space with allow.

i prefer not to get involved with a second knob, i mean, nothing wrong with experimenting, but i think it would become a pain in the ass

to answer the topic question, yes.

Tone knobs in the right hands are magical tools. Real players like Warren Haynes get some really nice textures going using tone controls. Not me. On my 3 guitars, my tone knob(s) are dimed, bypassed and non-esixtent.
