If I practiced a song along to a 1bpm metronome, the battery powering my EMGs would die before I finished the song.

1000% yes. Getting four people to count 4 bpm quarter notes the same is near impossible. The drummer rushes things and next thing you know, we're cruising along at 12 bpm.
