Despite the obvious spinal tap image, he has flat kicked ass for close to 30 years. One of the best players on the planet. That said I would love to hear a straight ahead rock /blues based album from him. Maybe with some different tones. I remember hearing a few bars of country type licks in a solo he did.just killer. ..

The Inspiration album is amazing.
Filled with great songs.
One of his best.

First three albums are pretty killer in my opinion. Even odyssey is cool. Eclipse is prob my fave album of his. Tone, songwriting, everything kicked on that album. Then the slow descent into even more repetition and heavier guitars shiite. Just horrible. War to end all wars was horrible! Hate that POS. He also routinely says he hates his own albums so what does that say..inspiration was pretty good but the further you get to the end, the more wankery. Child in time is atrocious.

I went to high school in the 80's and back then, there were few people that could even touch Yngwie. We would just be blown away listening to "Black Star" or any of that early stuff.

With that said, he seems like the kind of guy that can't really "jam" with people. He is so set in his ways that he follows a pattern and can't really get away from it. I heard EVH is the same way.

On the Malmsteen board there has been much talk of this book, many grown men have weighed in on how it concentrates on Yngwie's formative years in Sweden and his early USA start.
Heard April manageress/wifey, is less than thrilled with the tome, but she is like that about a lot of Yngwie's career.
Have always loved and admired Yngwie's playing and attitude. True he needs to be produced, not by himself and to get back to his earlier less compressed, stronger tone, but can still play awesomely.
Yngwie's sloppy is another's woodshedding for twenty years.
Realized that his playing level was unobtainable for myself, Gary Moore and Steve Stevens have kept me going for these many years as well, but there is only one YJM and always will be. ;)

Rising Force is amazing. The rest is wank.
This is a dumbass statement. He has some hit and miss stuff, but there are lots of good other albums. Even if you just like the instrumentals.

The guy's had a long career and stuck to his vision, unlike some of the metal fill-in hacks that get high praise here.
One of the first things I've seen from you I actually agree with.

Ha! Most seem to have had shitty experiences meeting the guy, but i can only go by my late friend Kevin, who met him backstage more than once. Kevin found him to be a cool dude, friendly, accommodating, signing a few guitars, etc. This was in the 90's, the Full Donut stage

I almost, kind of met Yngwie once. After a G3 show in Chicago, he walked right past and ignored me when I tried to say something to him. I was hoping to chat a little with him. But instead, I got stuck in an alley chatting with Steve Vai for an hour or so. Vai just hung out in the alley with everyone, signing everything, chatting about anything, until everyone was tired and started to head home.

I'm pretty sure I met Yngwie's wife at his last show at the House of Blues in Chicago. I just HAD to finally go and get one of those "Yngwie fucking Malmsteen" t-shirts. She was the one who got it for me. She was working at the merchandise stand. I'm 99% sure that was her.

love Yngwie. i love his tone, his playing...maybe one day ill have a good strat, with his pickups, and cop his tone somewhat. i really enjoy it, best strat tone evar, tied with SRV's strat tone IMO. he used to seem like an arrogant douche back in the day, but he seems like a pretty cool dude. he has that attitude, but its part of the show. i remember reading about a journalist who was going to interview him, and when he walked in Yngwie had his guitar on, standing in front of his stacks and Yngwie asked "what time is it?" and the journalist said "i dont know?" Yngwie's response? "its time to rock!" and he starts shredding. THAT is cool IMO.

he just seems to love to play. and he makes a living from it. id love to make a living doing what i love...some people just get that lucky, eh?

I hear ya. I love Yngwie. He's one of my biggest influences and favorite players. Some people have a hard time looking past his "attitude." But I think it's just hilariously cartoonish.

He can't be a complete douche. My older brother's buddy befriended him when he was playing a club in Atlanta back in the late 80's. He ended up driving Yngwie around in his Hyundai taking him to various clubs the hotel wherever   Yngwie actually called him the next time he came through Atlanta and they hung out again.

see, now THAT is cool as hell! Yngwie didnt care that he was in a Hyundai, even though he is an admitted Ferrari lover!  sweet story though, nice to see that some of the more outlandish people in music seem to be some of the coolest as well.
