It was OK. He's not a great singer or lyricist but that can be said of lots of people.

He long ago figured out that they key to as njshred put it a "four Ferrari lifestyle" is to a) run the show and b) control costs. He's not going to stop doing the things that got him those Ferraris in the first place. Producers, prima donna singers, supergroups, joining bands - all routes to the poor house. The comparison to Dave Mustaine is apt - there's a reason they're both wealthy and essentially everyone else who's ever been in their bands is either broke or had to adopt the same model (e.g. Friedman).

Looking back, most of the musicians that Yngwie and Dave used over the years had plenty of talent, but not the unyielding drive/discipline/vision it takes to stay alive at a high level in the music world, or at least their part of it, some of them couldn't even stay alive very long (RIP Gar). Hence, sidemen.....which is perfectly fine and can still be a great living and satisfying to a musician.

There are so many kids today who can parrot Yngwie or Edward or anyone else.....but they aren't Yngwie or Edward, and people aren't going to be paying to hear them on major tours or gigs, maybe none at all. There is a big commitment req'd to decide "I'm not going to have a regular job, this is my life forever" and become that guy----the one who is the draw and usually a primary songwriter.

If there is one thing Yngwie has NEVER lacked, it's total belief in himself and his style of dress, core gear, and music. He didn't give a fuck when Grunge arrived, or Boy Bands, or Wap or Nu Metal or whatever trend that dominated "popular" or metal music over the last 40 years. The Dave lost his identity a bit starting in the '90s, but rediscovered his roots near the end.

I remember a local small time "rock star" who played gigs in my area, it was thought he had potential to make it. He had the whole Hair Metal look around '91, ripped jeans, jean jacket, long straight hair, open shirt, chrome steel tipped boots, etc., his guitarist had brightly colored shred guitars, etc. Then I saw him again in late '92 and he looked and sounded like a budget version of Shannon Hoon!! Total sellout to the Grunge/Alt Fad. He probably washes cars for a living to this day.

Nah he should create like a supergroup with like jorn lande, uli kusch, and markus grosskopf or something like that

It would be cool if his og keyboard guy jens johannson was in it too tho

Or he should join a band that isn't known for its guitar stuff like royal hunt or someone like that where the band would really benefit with his busy playing

This does make me laugh but the dude is a guitar master, can't hate. I've never liked any of his actual songs but his playing can be top notch.

Jorn sang during the War to end all wars tour ( a very brief period) and there was a big fight that happened that was the end of that relationship. Didn’t last long .

I went to a show on this tour when he opened up for Dio. It was the loudest show I've ever been to (though I was standing front and center.). Even the vocals were screechingly loud, but in an awesome way.

I listened when I first saw it come out. Almost, and I mean almost, sounded ok at the beginning. Then the singing started. Man. Get a singer and stop this Yngwie.

What is that sound modern vocals always seem to have. This spitty, digital sound and like the mic gain is super high. Always sounds like they are way up front and right in my ear. Can’t stand it.

I’ve prayed for so long Yngwie would have one last redemption arc and put together a cool group and record something old school. Maybe even branch out to some different styles, but in the Yngwie way. Like imagine him doing something with a jazz fusion 5 string bass player or something? Never going to happen though. Just one lackluster album after another.

At least we got the earlier albums. And I’m talking into the 90s too. Great stuff. I love the guy, just can’t do this new stuff.

I hear you. Sometimes I think the times have changed or maybe we have all changed and the artist has not? Or maybe it is the other way around?

We all want the return to the old tones and killer tunes, but they just do not exist anymore. Its a bummer. He is a caricature of himself these days.
