I find his voice very irritating. He sounds OK on the Doobie Brothers tune "What a Fool Believes", but it would be better if someone else sang it. It's not a Doobie Brothers tune IMO. Other than that tune, I'll pass. And I don't think he was a good fit in that band.

He did write some of the lyrics to Van Halen's "I'll wait". McDonald has said that VH tune has earned the biggest royalty checks he's gotten.

Absolutely and in 76 I saw a great concert with them headlining at Henry Cowell Redwoods state park and he was the low point.Skunk killed though.
