Some nice pine telecasters out there, but this is going to be another TMZ fail.

Gotta give them credit for trying new stuff though.

The first Fender guitar was pine...essentially a pre-Tele. No way to pass judgement on these Charvels without plugging in.

Look like cheap coffins to me! $3k? No way! For that much money, I want flamed maple, and "Gibson" on the headstock!

The guitar in your avatar was a parts mutt that was slapped together half ased, people that played it thought it was a mess.

$3000 Gibsons aint nothing to brag about either

What failed before? I have a TMZ Koa and I think it's one of the best playing and sounding guitars I ever played.
Agreed that the prices are crazy.

there's a company around here that salvages logs from lakes where sawmills were located. i think it's called lake superior salvage.. or something like that. anyway.. the logs they bring up are first cut old growth logs that have been under water for years and years. it's really first rate lumber. they don't grow them like that anymore. tight grain.. no sap pockets. i had heard a rumor that they were selling these logs to instrument makers.. cabinet makers and the like. don't know if that's where they got the wood for these.. but it wouldn't surprise me. btw.. if you take a look at it it's a plank. no pieces or bookmatched wood in that guitar. spruce and cedar are tone woods. why not white pine?

who knows? maybe if i played one i'd be PINING for it? ba da bump.

meh, i've seen way more gimmicky axes sell for way more money than they're charging for these. seeing as how this is a piece where the gimmick actually affects the tone and timbre of the instrument (potentially in a very positive way), i can see a collector shelling out the cash for one of these before buying a quintuple-necked x-guitar. price doesn't seem too outrageous; gc or sam ash would prob charge $5k+ for one of these (and likely well into the $10k range if it was a gibson or fender).

if it plays and sounds anything like my US pointy it's worth the price.

Charvels are

Well I would not say the Legacy series, graphics series, or the relic series did as well as they would have liked.

The naturals and the sparkle run were the best ones IMO. I have a natural Mahogany that kills.

+1 I have a few of the TMZ Charvels, and they all kick ass. I think Tommy has done great with his selection of choices for the Custom Shop TMZ strats (Koa and Mahog), simple and basic layout, and great guitars in general. I have not ever personally played a pine guitar, but the article that they sent me shows that it is very old wood, and re-claimed from beams in an old mill, or something. Doesn't appear that there will be very many of them.
