Could you explain it in more detail? I see the guitar cable into Ch2 Hi and the dummy jack in Ch1 Lo but I'm not understanding what that does. I'm looking at a schematic of 4-holer inputs and it doesn't look like it would do anything. Also not understanding how the jack renders the channels cascaded (cascaded, as in one channel feeds the next channel). Or maybe there is more to this than just sticking a dummy jack into Ch1 Lo?

Sounds amazing, just trying to understand.

Thank you for watching the vid.

I know, some are wondering what the hell I'm talking about.
This video I made should give you an explanation as to what's going on.

Ahh, got it. Thanks! So you swap the coupling caps but leave the cathode RC as-is? Have you tried switching the cathode RC's?

I recently broke out my first homebrew (about 20 yrs ago), a 50W plexi w/ LarMar PPIMV and I had forgotten how good it sounds as-is. But this is so easy and non-invasive I simply have to try it.

Side note: It would be really interesting to hear any difference once you get it all mustardized. I usually use polyester ODs but my plexi build got Sozos.

This sounds absolutely FANTASTIC!

You say sheer volume, but how loud was this recorded?

I'm just using a shared cathode 820r/ 330uF. I like the way it sounds in it's stock form right now.
Yeah, definitely give the one wire a try, I think you're gonna like it. :)
I've got a few more mustard's replaced since I made that video, this is what it looks like at the moment.
I find it sounds a little warmer with the mustard's and the orange drops are a little more aggressive sounding.

Thank you, I appreciate the kindness.

This was recorded at about jam levels, possibly loud enough to drown out a drummer out at this volume. :)

It sounds tighter the more you lean on the volume, it's a monster let me tell ya. :)

I made this clip right after the other one, turned it up a little louder and backed the bass off a touch.
The only thing is I used a different guitar and bridge pu, DiMarzio SD.

Beautiful job! Sounds fabulous! I can only imagine how loud that was but oh my, totally worth it!

Damn dude! Just awesome good tones.

FWIW, I adjust my PPIMV a bazillion times more than I do my Presence control. So I swapped them. If you look at the layout it works pretty easy.

Want more Nuno guitar clips!!!
:rawk:

Dan, I can honestly tell you that everyone loves this guitar.
Band mates over the years has all told me the same thing "that Nuno Washburn sounds best".
I don't know what it is about this guitar, I've played other N2's and they just don't sound as good as this one.
The alder body just screams in this one big-time for some strange reason.
Anyways, here's one you might not of heard, I don't think I've posted this sound clip here before.

Thank you kindly my friend.

This amp is mind blowing when it's loud, sometimes it's actually scary.

It's like you can feel the sound in the air and electric charge all around you, it's hard to explain. :D

Thanks again for all the kind words.

I usually don't adjust either one very much at home but for band rehearsal and gigging swapping them around would make life a lot easier.

I remember hearing about this mod a long time ago but I also read that it didn't sound good so I (mistakenly) never tried it.

After doing a tiny bit of research it's easy to see why. There are several versions of the mod (maybe mistakes, maybe a grapevine thing, I dunno). As you said in your video, some add the 1M resistor to the new wire on the wiper. That seems like an insane amount of gain. The way you did it, the second stage has a grid-to-ground resistance of those two 68k resistors in parallel for 34k to ground. That's really low, throwing away a ton of gain (as most all good high gain amps do). When you plug in the dummy jack that 34k becomes 68k, more gain. Adding the 1M resistor it's now 1.034M to ground (1.068 with dummy). It's not as drastic as it seems because it's all in parallel with the pot but it's still a huge difference. It's way more bassy that way too, probably flub city.

Also, some cascade the Bright channel into the Normal but you cascaded the Normal into the Bright (with cap swap). Intuitively that makes sense. When I play my plexi I use the Bright channel and then boost it, just like this mod.

Since I have split cathodes on mine it might require a tweak. Just need a few parts to arrive in the mail (giving it a little TLC) and the deed will be done. As far as playing, can't touch you man.

Thanks for the 2nd clip. That guitar just "marries" that Marshall so well!! I has a few Nuno Washburns but they didn't gel with my amps like that!

Wow, just WOW!!!
Love the tones and the playing. Great job!!!

Ignites the plexi gas, thanks for that, LOL

Easily your best tones to date.. and the playing everywhere and especially at 4:07?? Damn that was a tasty lick. Loved that.

That's the thing, there are a number of ways to do this mod so you just need to find which one works best for your amp and your needs.
I would love to know how things go for ya after your parts arrive, keep me posted.
