There are only 3 tone caps that are oriented the correct way with the black band marking on the caps going in the direction they should. Pretty hard to fathom that builders at Marshall don't know this.
Unfortunately, Vishay/ERO MKT 1813 caps are not marked for outside foil. The exterior markings are printed any which way during manufacturing, so the black band doesn't mean anything.

So they used 220K resistors on the first preamp tube to cut the signal back quite a bit. And that allows for lower stock type gain tones.
Using 220K plate resistors on V1 reduces voltage to each stage. This increases the gain, it does not lower it.

Blake, if you keep the amp, it could sound a lot better by just getting the tone cap orientation correct.
I'm not intending to be argumentative for no reason, but this won't change the sound of the amp at all. Orienting signal caps in this way (assuming you take the time to test the caps and ID the outside foil) is simply using the that side of the cap to block some potential noise. But it's minimal at best and has no affect on "tone".

The bigger issue I'm seeing in this amp is the lack of the other components needed to make a proper pre-stack Jose Master Volume work and sound right. But maybe they're hidden under that small daughter board? For example, the DC blocking cap that is needed after the 10K from the CF.

But all in all, it's built fine. Would be easy to tweak a few things here or there to make this amp a real fire breather.
