I need to get my room organized, and the one thing I really need is an amp shelf. I was curious what you guys are using and if you all have any recommendations.

I just built one out of 2x4's and plywood, but probably not practical for everyone. I also wanted the middle section to be able to add rack mount gear, so that was another reason I went "home build" on mine so I could customize it.

Looking around, I'm starting to think I'm probably going to have to build a few to fit my needs. I might as well grab some wood working tools and start building headshells too while I'm at it.

I had the same though, but only for guitar bodies. Made two, and haven't touched one since.. LOL

I use those wire shelving units from home depot. I put some 1/8 in plywood on the shelves so the amp feet sit a little better than directly on the wire.
And I build the head shells for the the Peavey and Crate amps on the left side

That's what I was originally after, but I was questioning how much weight they would hold. Clearly, it's more than I thought.

They've been holding the weight just fine for a while now. I think they're rated for 200-250 lbs per shelf.
The only thing I don't like is the way the amp feet sit on the wire. Depending on where things are positioned it may not line up quite right. And the wire will flex some where the feet sit. Not to the point where anything would give and break. That's why I put the plywood, the amps just sat a little better that way than directly on the wire shelf.

I use those as well. Need to add the plywood for the amp feet. Currently have some cardboard strips under the feet and the wood shelf base would work much better.

I had the wire racks (still use them for other things) but in my current home studio, I wanted them to be a little less wide. They were 36 inches wide and my widest amp was 29 inches. The rest were closer to 24-25 inches. So I wanted rack’s that were 30 inches wide.
Anyway, I ended up getting this:

It’s solid, has a real shelf, not wire. Goes together extremely easy, no screws or anything. Can be 1 tall rack or 2 shorter ones, I have mine in 2 short racks.

I posted a thread on these. This is to me the best way of storing amps inside a house. You can leave the back panel off if you’re worried about ventilation.
$35 each at IKEA.
I also have them in black. I have towers on the end that hold 1x12's for w/d/w, as well as rack gear like a power amp, fx processor, two notes torpedo and an interface.
