Regarding the mesa trick - are you talking about the caps in parallel with the rectifier diodes?

Ok, please let me explain...
I asked because I have heard from some people badmouthing the circuitry and workmanship of Marshall amps, particularly a very expensive 1959HW Handwired Marshall plexi I have. I've had this amp since the beginning of 2008 and I must say that it's one of the most incredible sounding amps I've ever played.
I have heard from some people that they don't think it sounds quite as good as the originals, blah blah blah, but I must totally disagree. Perhaps I'll get crucified for saying this, but I think it sounds easily as good as the originals. I played a few of the original plexis from 68'/69' and I know how they sound. You don't even have to get the volume up to ear bleeding levels to get an incredible tone from this 100w monster.
Anyway, I asked an amp tech the other day who started badmouthing the Marshall reissues. I asked why and he talked about capacitors, etc... I didn't really know what the hell difference it made because I'm not an amp engineer. It sounded technical enough but I don't know if he's just full of shit. I suspect so because as far as I can tell from the look and sound of the Marshall vintage reissues, they're fucking awesome.
In fact, I had a JTM45/100 to play with for a couple of days and got to compare it directly with the 1959hw. Wow! Now that's one hell of an amp too, however, somehow I still prefer the 1959hw more.
Anyway That's pretty much it. It's my Marshall 1959HW from 2008. I just sold it this afternoon and it was a difficult thing to let go of, but I also bought a brand new JCM800 Vintage Reissue today too. So it's out with the plexi and in with the JCM800.
Fuck it, I don't give a shit what the reviews say or what opinionated amp techs say. The 1959hw is such an incredible fucking amp.

I do not doubt that it sounds terrific, The build is top notch. That being said, if one thing could be changed, would be the output transformer. Metro has a Dagnal C1998 clone, that turn that from a great sounding amp to a holy grail.sixstrings":le83650h said:

The only that looked a little off for a major manufacturer was how sloppy the heater wiring was. I've only built one Metro 69 and I feel I did better than that. Plus the component leads looked a little worked on the board. If that's someone who wires X a day, X days a week, that's kind of strange. Especially as all the transformer wiring is so tight. I do agree that those amps sound great. I tried two and both were awesome.
