Would they have garnered the online attention they're receiving had it not been for the costumes? Would this thread even exist?

For me, the answer is no.

I think it's true to say the costumes and paint made them more popular. I also think it's true to say that no one would care about them if they didn't have something in their sound that resonated. This is not exactly my favorite kind of music, but it's fun and different.

What kind of disturbed me was that the guitar/bassist was barefoot with all that paint! People said this music is microtonal, but I'm not really hearing it yet. Perhaps I need to listen to more of their music.

Not a chance they take off like they did without the getup, that's part of the brilliance, they're selling you an experience. I find it less offensive to my eyes than the 80's ladyboy imagery, personally.

The fact that people are impressed with this actually makes me wish I could quit playing guitar - unfortunately, i am in the "fallacy of sunken costs" era after 30 years of gigging, writing, recording, and engineering
