Any Tips on Restoring Hardshell Case hardware?

I bought an early 90's Gibson LP and the OG case hardware is pretty rough to where the hardware latches on it makes it a challenge to open and close due to rust.

I know I know....Google, but I figured I would ask my beloved RT bros if they had any tips or tricks to clean that shit up to make it good as new or close to.

What finish is on the latches ? And what material?

Mask the area around latches, and use neat car wheel-cleaner with a toothbrush.
The hydrochloric acid should dissolve any rust from chrome.
Rinse, dry, and enjoy.
The alternative is Duraglit and elbow-grease.

Whatever Gibson cases used for their riveted latches in the 90's. Not entirely sure. Looks like it was fake chrome plated but I honestly don't know what was or even is still used these days for latches

I used to use concentrated wheel cleaner to get rust from the chrome front bumpers of Rolls Royces - but I was blowing them with a steam-cleaner. No effort involved.
Easier to just sit there with some Duraglit and rub rub rub.
