he's a great fucking guy. i've dealt with him outside of the music business side of it.

I have a pre 500 chrome face trace did a platinum mod on for me that slays. Overall the amp sounds more like a awesome recto tone you hear on your favorite albums. Some positives as follows:

1. Really is easier to play. I no longer fight the amp.
2. The fizz is gone. This can be a positive to some or a negative to others.
3. The amp never gets lost in a mix no matter the gain setting.
4. The top seems softer not as harsh and tinny. Yet harmonics do shoot off the fretboard faster.
5. No matter the venue the head is reliable and the sound doesn't change. That to me was the biggest deal. Even when I went from cab to cab if I didn't feel like bringing one of my cabs to a gig. The amp stayed consistent.

Now I also have a jfa modded rackto that jerry tore up for me. He reworked the mid range added a couple of pull push pots for bass' treble, gain ' and boost that replicates a boost pedal with the gain down and volume up. The whole amp sounds so unique and equally insane. I can say without a doubt going with trace or jerry you will be completely happy. I have multiple amps with both guys.

thanks for the info!

Would you say that you lost the fizziness but didn't lose gain? That's one of the things I worry about. I'm not a big fan of the fizz but I'm afraid of what it'll sound like without it! I don't want to lose gain.

And would you say that the Voodoo mod 'opened' the Mesa up? Meaning more articulate and clear/open sounding?

I just played a stock Mesa Dual Rec Multi-watt next to my Voodoo Platinum modded Dual Rec Multi-watt. Yes, the fizz in the upper mids is gone. It tightens up the bottom end to make it more punchy. The amp is super articulate, and allows you to roll off your volume on your guitar a LOT better, and it cleans up REALLY REALLY well. It really makes the Dual Rec much more usable across all the tones (MOdern, Vintage, Raw). The amp is by far the MOST versatile amp I've ever played. It goes from Metal, to hard rock, to rock, to even a bit country on Clean channel. It can go from Eric Johnson style cleans, to chicken picken really well. The amp is totally a new animal, with the lineage of a Dual Rec, but just a better overall tone, EQ stack, and setup. It's definitely a must have mod in my book for the Dual Rec.

You will not loose gain. A matter of fact you will have more useable gain on tap.

Man, you guys are the best. I really appreciate the input. I'm going to call them on Monday morning and see if I can set something up for next week. I only have enough scratch for the "standard" mod so I'm hoping that I can get similar results at a more attainable price point.

Someone buy my Hetset so I can do this! :p
