Best album of the 2020s …. So far :Periphery V

New stryper going power metal and cranking out a bunch of kickass reunion albums was not on my bingo list for the last decade, but here we are.

What an excellent trajectory they are on
That’s the funniest shit yet I’ve heard you say
lol good shit

I’ve came to the conclusion that people either love or hate Periphery… Didn’t know they were that polarizing..

The production and song writing after that hiatus are just perfect. Such a pleasant surprise when I first dug into it.
I think it is pretty funny how thoughtful and intricate their stuff has become considering that first EP 😂

For it’s not even close . This album is just perfect songwriting . Real songs with technique added . Not the usual opposite of many modern bands .
What you guys got

The singer looks like he’s gotta wrap the shoot up by 4:30 coz he’s doing a shift at his Dad’s Lebanese restaurant at 6.

This album is a gigantic pile of dogshit frfr

The guitar solos sound like running a guitar pro midi through a software amp emulator

The drums are obviously trigger replacements and have no feel, groove, or motion

The guitar tones sound like every song you hear on LiquidMetal and every song that plays on "metal" satellite radio every second of every day - the same god awful boring "modern" shit that every other "modern" band does

In fact every aspect of the songwriting and production is so done to death, so boring, trite, and obvious that if you told me this was created by an AI ten years ago I would have believed you
I agree with everything you say on here except maybe not so harsh, or not to the extreme. But everything you describe I’m able to make sense of it so well…

I think Nolly did a really good thing and is a good producer/mixer still… but the sounds become “cookie cutter” at some point. They save a bunch of of money by having him produce and mix (assuming he did by what I hear). But I think a fresh perspective with maybe someone who does more old school style of producing and recording could help them bring out a completely different side of their sound.

The singing though… this must be what it’s like for people that can’t stand Megadeth because of Dave’s vocals… because I always liked Dave’s vocals. Most people would immediately bring up Hetfield to try and convince me otherwise but there is more than one band that exists… anyways, the Periphery vocals are sooooooo bad. I hope people aren’t trying to recreate that… or at least I don’t end up having to hear what sounds like a turkey on a Tuesday before thanksgiving

You guys care about this production stuff and this and that . It’s about great songs . That’s why it’s best

Nolly is obviously a talented producer and all but we've reached peak "holy shit enough already" with modern "progressive" "metal"

There's no attitude, no depth, nothing remotely dangerous about this album in any way. Which definitely makes sense as to why they are a big name in this genre that's for sure.

I hate the other aspects equally, but the vocals are literally just copypasting the style of screamo bands onto PrOgReSsIvE music

I think it's funny everyone is beating on Periphery for how it's all so stale - it was all the other bands that have copied THEM 😂

I dug a few tunes on the Periphery IV album, “Reptile” and “Garden In The Bones” are fucking sick songs and while I can’t fucking stand when the singer dude gets into the emo voice, he’s a ridiculous great singer that pulls that shit off live without backing tracks and autotune, some of that shit is not easy at all, that bridge in “Gaden In The Bones” specifically.

I don’t always dig the tone of his voice, but this shit is impressive as fuck to pull off live, his pitch is dead on and he’s full on belting that shit out in his chest voice hitting notes Geoff Tate hasn’t hit since ‘88 using a mixed voice.

My album of the decade would have to be Mastodon’s Hushed And Grimm, the soundtrack to my divorce and rebuilding of my life after. Way too personal of an album to be a “Hey everyone, check out this rockin’ shit!” and way more like “Hey, if ya think you might off yourself this might be good to listen to”

Devin Townsend’s Lightwork was another great one. but for my pick of “FUCK YEAH!!” music it’d have to go to-

Dude check out v more . I know you will get it . The sings and tones are great . I think Spencer has become a great singer and melody writer . Makes me go back and love all their stuff . Sike think I’m trolling but so far this decade it’s the album imo

I could never dog music this amazing even if I hated it . I hate a lot modern metal but . Damn atleast there guitars is how I’d feel . Idk the songs on this album speak to my soul . Just like Tom Dooley or any classic

I stand by statement though . This album has catchy songs with technique that enhances . Not takes over . They found perfect balance

Yeah like that one that goes "MYAH MEOW MOW"

*BONG BONG BONG *

"HHHHOOOOOAAAAARGH"

*BONG BONG. BONG BONG BONG"

Such an amazing, original artistic statement, no one has ever played screamo with down tuned guitars before in the history of guitar

This is not screamo in any way or fashion

No, production is about preventing bad songs from being made too, not just post processing.

So when I talk about bad production, that’s a way of saying the songs went sour but it’s not all on the band because the producer may have made it that way or stopped from turning sour… in this case it’s even worse because they self produced hence why I focused having an outsiders perspective oversee the entire thing.

To make myself clear, it’s about the songs being bad…
