I’ll keep it real these newer compositions are very “polished.” Sometimes I love it other times it becomes too on the grid, robotic, & lifeless… At that point I tend to just focus on the techniques which can be appreciated.. It’s hilarious watching old movies & listening to old songs with the kids because their generation is accustomed to the newer sound & productions.. I turned on some random movie called “Mac and me” the other day & at first my daughters were like “Dad wth is this” but then it was so hilarious & over the top they ended up watching the whole thing lmao. Short circuited them. Slowly introducing them to older music / film so they can appreciate the lost relics while partaking in some of the modern ones as well. I’ve found an equal amount of trash to wade through in every era it seems… To be clear I am not calling Mac & me a relic…

That’s cool that you’re able to stand back and just watch the dumpster fire burn without getting your hands dirty, but not common amongst periphery fans. What you are trying to claim is smart or snobbery - I see as a straightforward simple way of making sense of things. How often have you gone through life wondering what is meant by “over-produced”? These are terms that are common language so it shouldn’t be looked at as “smart”, it should be looked at as “common sense” imo

Periphery pioneered what is now looked at in djent/prog metal as “over-produced” and it’s something I’ve always been learning about and have admired them for since so many bands replicated their formula which unfortunately turned into Periphery fatigue. I think what they have done was groundbreaking up until the 20’s which is where the mic gets dropped.

Hopefully this all makes sense to you? I’m not trying to sound smart at all. Maybe you can expand on how you’re upset about too many words again or caveman it: SONG GUD. SONG BAD. NO INBETWEEN. INBETWEEN BAD

If you went back in time to 1998 and told the average guitar music enjoyer that the most popular guitar music figures would be aping 4th rate groove metal band Messhuggah, swiping the breakdowns and progressive song structures of underground metalcore like Poison the Well, stealing the whiny vocals of emo bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and Saves the Day without a single hint of the depth, poeticism, songwriting craft, and hooks

I understand what they are trying to do, that doesn't mean it's successful in an artistic way at all
