BEST OD to use on already distorted amp??

I need a new OD pedal. I had a cusack screamer that I really liked but now it just shrieks and crackles. So, what OD do you guys prefer to use when your amp is already distorted. Maybe for lead work, for that extra touch sensitivity, or maybe to get a punchier more defined chuggah chuggah type riff. I use an OD for both of those applications. I dig them for certain kinds of lead work. I also use it to get a punchier more well defined heavy riff kind of tone.

what would you guys use for these applications? I always used the cusack screamer for the last 7 or 8 years, and I never kept up to date on new brands and types of overdrives.

just watched Pete Thorn demo the kirk hamett overdrive, thought it sounded great. I listened to a clip online of the mesa grid slammer, I thought that sounded good also.

best thing i have found is a koko boost. If you have your gain maxed on your amp you can just leave the red side at unity gain and it still really fills out the sound and make solos easier to play. No need for any clipping or drive option in my opinion it just adds more noise and an unnatural feeling.

You can really spend some dough going down this road. Just get another Screamer V2. Great quiet pedal. A klon type works also but is different than the TS types. I use the Cussack, Timmy, and KTR but the Cussack is used most. I have had many including the Koko. I like the Timmy better, although the Koko is good.Cannot beat this price for new.

The Fortin Grind brings that signature Fortin attack to a high gain amp. I like that a lot for modern metal/rock. Maxon 808 or 808x is an excellent choice for volume up gain almost at zero applications on hi gain. The MXR custom bad ass modified OD is an awful name but a great pedal with lots of options on it to sculpt the tone, and cheap cheap. I actually sold off a lot of pedals but that one stays.

Lots of choices out there, strap in for the GAS ride.

I like the Seymour Duncan 805 as well as the MXR Custom Badass Modified OD. I use these to boost my Roadster & Uberschall.

For a few years I used a cheapo Danelectro fish n chips eq with a Full tone OCD, which was replaced with a Joyo Ultimate Drive. Used those with any and all Marshalls, JMPs, JCMs, Jubilees. Sounded better to me than any Wampler or Bogner pedal I tried. With an SLO I used the eq pedal, sounded great. Now I have a Boss OD1X, adds a bit of upper mids and doesn't suck low end. Transparent and is probably the quietest boost pedal I've had.

Tubescreamer based pedals work best for me and I`ve used a lot of them. Right now I`m using a TC Electronic Spark Boost into the BE channel of my Freidman Small Box , the Xotic BB Preamp works really well also. I always leave the gain off and the vol adjusted to taste

hey man!! but how is this compared to the first one?? that one was awesome, I had ZERO desire to try another OD. it worked great with every amp I played it through. it was quiet and pretty transparent. I kept the gain at about 9 oclock and the level at about 3 oclock and it was killer man!! someone on here told me the v2 is a lot fuzzier, what do you think about that? have you played both? the first was not fuzzy in the least bit, it was clear and well defined while giving the added touch sensitivity.

I find mine very clear and not fuzzy. I never played an earlier one Mike

I have heard a lot of players say this is the overdrive to get, but heard other say the exact opposite. it seems like you either love this one or don't like it much. I have never played one.

Aparently Storm hasn't tried a Cusack, as it has a TON more clarity than a typical "TS" circuit. Clarity is the reason I built the Screamer is the first place, to get a similar sound to the TS, but with more gain and clarity. Not all TS "clones" are built alike....

The V2 also has a Toggle to select what type of clipping diodes it has, including the original type from the V1. I highly suggest the V2 for the added clipping options. There may be a few V1s left floating around, but most dealers are out of it.

Maybe try and fix your Screamer or get another one. Unless you want to try something new.

My all-round favorite od pedal is my Jetter GS124, especially for leads and touch sensitivity like you were talking about. For leads I also really like my Jetter Gold Standard and Jetter Jetdrive. For riffage and chuggy stuff my favorites are my Klon KTR, Jetter GS103, and Fortin Grind but it can sound thin and not agree with certain amps. The Jetter Traindrive is also a terrific od pedal. I've been very impressed impressed with all of Jetter's pedals. I'd really like to try though that new KHDK pedal.

I've tried to KoKo Reloaded with a splawn and 5150 and the bass to my ears seemed kinda flubby.

I've got an original Cusack Screamer. They're great pedals  I usually dime the level and run the gain at about 9:00.

Thorpy Gunshot.

Reza - Really interesting pedal, but all of the videos I've seen have the Gunshot playing through a clean amp (yours included). Would you mind uploading a vid thru a Marshall style amp?

I use the Maxon OD808, Fortin Grind or the Koko Boost (Original).
