That's not true. People have been tuning six string Gibsons to B forever. I have two 7-string Les Paul's and both are monster guitars.

It can be done, but on shorter scales the higher order harmonics are out of tune even when the fundamental frequencies were tuned correctly. Which generally leads to intonation issues and a muddier tone. YMMV though, I have a friend that reckoned his 27" 7 string has too much clarity and preferred a 25.5" 7 string.

I just play the things and think they sound great.

Go used if you can easily get a much better quality instrument, then it really depends on if you prefer a beefy neck or slim. If you want a thin neck Ibanez wins every time
