I posted this in the Synergy thread also. I think they both sound great here. I have considered an UU, but not sure if it is worth the $3k vs the Synergy module.

He liked the amp a little better, but I have a feeling they would be even closer if he used a better power amp than the Fryette Power Station.

In that video I liked the amp better but they both sounded really good. The head has a clarity and assertiveness in the high mids I didn't hear in the module. However it's also not an Uber Ultra module, it's an OG Uberschall module so I'd expect there to be some differences. I bet if you threw a clean / treble boost in front of that module they'd get much closer.

Yep this too.

I have both and enjoy both. There’s more variations in sound with the UU. I think I can get the UU to sound like the Synergy, but there are sounds in the UU I can’t get from the Synergy. I play the Synergy Uber 90% of the time on one setting when I just pick up and play, it’s just my go-to.

One thing you definitely hear in that video is that the UU noisy AF

I liked my UU a lot, but Having compared the two side by side myself (though I used a 2/90/2) it was easy to sell the UU. The module is much more natural and organic sounding and doesn’t squeal like a pig without a noise gate.

I have both, UU for the win. It has the power amp NFB controls to further shape the tone and is more versatile much more so than the Synergy module. The Synergy module is great for a preamp module.

I thought the module sounded the closest when DMD finally took the UU out of Ultra mode. The core tone is there with Synergy for sure but the actual Uber amp sounded bigger and more dynamic. When I thought the Module was sounding pretty great when he clicked back to it at times it sounded small and boxy, maybe it did have to do with the PS100 power amp.:dunno:

All in all I am impressed how close the Synergy Module is and if you can find a flexible power amp that can capture all of the different amp power sections then they would be damn close. I thought it was a pretty good and fair comparison video.:2thumbsup:

Ultra mode is like turning up the suck knob...:ROFLMAO: I don't think I ever used my UU in that setting after trying it out for the first time. Maybe that's why I like the module as much. If you are going for Rev Blue type Uber, then the module gets you that. If you want the Ultra tones, for God knows why, best to stick with the amp.

Synergy with a KSR power amp is a match made in heaven. The KSR has NFB, Top (presence) & Bottom (resonance), 2 masters and an effect loop if you want. Easiest amp to bias I've ever had, no tools needed, it'a all on the front panel. Synergy should really partner with KSR and sell them as a pair or get KSR to make them an amp.

The first 30 seconds are sufficient to get an idea. What's he doing in the other 40 minutes?

Man I was thinking the other day I’d love a KSR module haha

The Power Station kills with the Uber module. I mean, I am very, very impressed with the setup.

I dont own one, but I know it is suppose to be transparent and stiff. I generally prefer chuggy power amps with sag that are scooped.

The switches, presence and depth make it anything but flat if one wants.

It is actually pretty organic. Just like most tube power amps.

Note, mine is the PS100.

I should definitely try the module into the effects return of an amp that has negative feedback control.

I have been switching my Synergy stuff in between 3 different power amps, and it makes a big difference!

What power amps do you have...I have the Fryette 2/90/2 and the Engl E840...debating getting the Fryette 2/50/2 as well to add some el34s to the mix. I just wonder how different it would be from the 2/90/2.

I have a Mesa 2:90, a Duncan KTG2100, which is a 4xKT88 VHT inspired poweramp, and here lately, my favorite has been using the poweramp section of my SLO modded JCA100HDM. The power amp on that amp sounds huge. It has more sag, so it is chuggier than the rack poweramps.

I guess I need to try running it through some of my amp heads...I have a good assortment of amps with different tube types and 50/100ws

I was reading some old posts about people saying their amp heads sounded bigger than all the rack poweramps, so I tried it. The problem is, two of my heads, the Recto and the XXX dont have depth or presence knobs, which make them hard to work with.

My 5153 50w sounds good, but the JCA sounds bigger. I have been debating if I am willing to give up stereo just to switch to using a head to power my Synergy rack.

You will have to try it and see what you think. I want to try with more heads, but I dont have any others that meet the requirements well.
