By the way NOS Russian tubes, particularly from the old St. Petersburg factory are some of the best tubes available. Hence the price on matched triplets of Winged C 6550s. Or the old 6550Bs.

It was Soviet Era in Slovik writing from an eBay dude and I was young, wasn't an official dealer..... Since I've never seen anything that was as red, things went full nuclear and cherry red. It wasn't an official dealer as said or anything, just a dude on eBay and they came from Russia

I wouldn't say it's the same as say a current production Sovtek El84-M or dudes like TAD and those are probably screened and filtered to make sure you get a solid tube and as said not random dealers/unofficial etc etc that may have duds or not properly screen these for use in guitar amps. Maybe it was good for a HAM radio or something but the amp didn't take it well in either case. I would trust a reputable/official dealer in either case.

Cool thing was is I bought the Peavey Classic 30 with gambling money I got as a teenager.... It was a black/silver head with the round Peavey emblem and MIA.

Pechanga had advertised slots back then that paid out every hour...... I had saved up walking around money like 300 or 400 bucks. My trick was smoking a cigarette slowly and then half way I would run a full 20$ bill into a 5$ slot machine. I was too young to play poker so I played the slots.... When I was 13/14 I actually finished top 11 out of a 10,000 person Texas Holdem Tournament but yeah... Hell I think I was too young for that too but whatever


When folks would lose a bunch of money and drop like 4 or 5 thousand dollars in a slot machine and then stood up and walked away I would jump on the seat and slow play it smoking a cig. Needless to say people hated that shit after I'd win on their seat...... I got some nasty stares too but I wasnt doing anything wrong and it worked and I won.

I'd win like 300 or 500 bucks on average an hour and once I won 2,000+ dollars and that's what I used to buy the amp. I bought the amp for 300 bucks used pretty much mint, kept some money and gave the rest to my parents.


It was pretty cool as a kid and it was one hell of an amp that really was nicer than my first Fender Super 60 red knob.

I just sold my Mesa Mark IV. It's the outcome of being stupid enough to quit my job in this economy.

Have a bunch more mistakes lined up in the same vein, both guitars and amps.

Sucks, but that one amp sale gave me enough money to keep me afloat for the next two or three years.

After all, it's just gear, right? So I keep telling myself.

I was like 17 or something at the time, taller than most kids on average, smoking cigs..... No one said anything.... Id always gambled if I went and had walking around money

Id play Texas Holdem online though and that's how I played in poker tournaments. Again 11th place out of 10,000 ain't bad and top .01+ percentile in the group from that sense.

Pechanga doesn't do advertised hourly paying slots anymore either.

If my maths was better I'd probably make a half decent player I just never put the kind of time in to be real good. There are a lot of small tournaments around here....might be able to make a few bucks if I was a better player. Love watching all those guys play though.

Yeah there is maths involved and game theory too as well to supplement the maths and odds/percentages but it's also a gut/feel game so it's a balance. There is always risk involved too and you have to know when there is that window of opportunity in high risk high/low reward scenarios. Sometimes I wouldn't have a hand but the odds were strong to win given outs, game Theory and probability. If my hand had a 25%-30%+ chance or higher or 10-12+ outs or something I would push it and it usually worked out to where dudes would be forced out or my hand would come on the Turn or River for example in Hold'em.

15%-20%+ hands arent bad either from that point of view either.

But as good as the best may be the thing is you never know. Once I went all in on a pair of High Aces before the flop and I actually had the better hand and I lost everything then and there. I had "The Nuts" right then and there pretty much but I lost to a three of a kind Queens as a Queen popped up on the Flop for the other dudes pair of Queens. That's when I sort of realized that no matter how good you may be or how good your hand may be..... Theres always that risk and one never really knows if anything is a sure bet playing....



I mean it's a good game and I love it but it is addicting so I stopped playing it for that. I had fun but I'm done with betting or anything of the sort, same reason I don't bet on Baseball or sports. Other people love it and don't see it as a problem or have problems with it but as said I've had my fun.

After all, it's just gear, right? So I keep telling myself.

I see excess gear as a burden, not a blessing. More strings to change, intonation to set, amps that require service. I'm all set with two electric guitars and two amps though I prefer to have a 3rd guitar that I can keep in E standard for jams. A luxury I don't have right now, but not a necessity. I see no point in having more than 4 or 5 guitars....even when I had that many most of them just sat in a case and didn't even get new strings once a year. Waste of money and space.
