Costly mistakes you have made with gear...not at all parody

I just sold my Mesa Mark IV. It's the outcome of being stupid enough to quit my job in this economy.

Have a bunch more mistakes lined up in the same vein, both guitars and amps.

Sucks, but that one amp sale gave me enough money to keep me afloat for the next two or three years.

After all, it's just gear, right? So I keep telling myself.
Sorry to hear that man but things work out in the end sometimes and hope it does for you and you find another one or similar one day that makes you as happy or happier. Regret letting stuff go sometimes too but in the end it works out IME.

I drank a couple beers underage once so I imagine underage gambling is possible too.
Dude, did you drink in a bar when you were 14 ?

There’s a pretty big difference between drinking some beers behind the garage and having a heavily regulated industry ( which casinos have ALWAYS been) allow you in to gamble when you were 14.

No, but I did drink in a few different bars when I was 18. Make friends with a couple bartenders and it wasn't all that difficult. Once they knew I was a musician it was pretty routine to get served...

I lived in Tahoe and worked at the Horizon casino for a while when I was under 21. It wasn't that difficult to hit slot machines underage especially if you dressed and carried yourself like an adult and kept a low profile. I also worked at a car wash nearby and sometimes got chips as tips and there was really only one way to use them. Caesar's was way more aggressive with enforcement in general than the other casinos IME. Security there were worse than the Stateline cops. who were some real pricks. To think that a determined kid couldn't get away with gambling in some of those places on a busy weekend is naive. Place was nuts....

We're not talking the 80's here when no one gave a shit. Kid is what; maybe his mid 30's at best? So we're looking at the mid 2000's. Casino security was not that lax.

It wasn't the 80's. Most of the casinos there had an arcade in them for the kids, so there are already younger people with a reason to be on the premises nvm families staying there on vacation. The only time anyone ever did anything about me being on a casino floor was when I was hanging out with some skaters at Caesars who were obviously underage and a few of them walked across the main gaming table area and were spotted on the cameras because they were dressed like teen skaters. We didn't get confronted till we were in the parking lot. Hardly ultra secure facilities there...

Okay, sure thing...
I can't remember a time in my younger years when I was of age that I didn't get carded at a casino, even just walking through the floor to go to the buffet Hell, I'm moving into my mid 40's, severely balding and I still get carded sometimes. And I'm talking backwater Louisiana casinos. Security hasn't been so lax to let minors on the floor willy-nilly for multiple decades.

Seems like you are doubting the-kid cause you don't like him, and now doubting me cause I say his story is plausible? *shrugs

Not sure where the kid gambled but go to Nevada and slot machines are everywhere including strip malls, gas stations, liquor stores, etc. I don't think it works like that in Louisiana. Now that you mention it we partied with the clerk at Dart discount liquors who would sell us booze underage as a matter of daily routine. They had slots there too. You really think she would've stopped us? LOL

The casinos had numerous doors, walk in on a busy night ain't nobody carding anyone until it was an obvious minor or someone was spotted. You could've played hundreds of dollars worth of slots by that time...there are slot machines everywhere, not just on the main gaming floor. You could probably be ten years old and find a semi isolated machine to hit if you were really determined.

I get you like playing Mr. Contrarian, but pretending a casino; regardless of where or what it is, will let a 14 year old on the floor to play slots and enter a poker tournament is a but much even for you. Though as the saying goes; you do you.

Wrong. Having lived in a gambling town I don't doubt that it's entirely possible that a minor could enter a casino and play and win on the slots. Most casino security aren't the I.D demanding super soldiers you make them out as. They are there punching a clock like everyone else and don't give a crap at the end of the day about a minor hitting slots. I think your naivety with regard to it is driven by your hatred for the-kid, who seems to have taken up residency in your head lately.

I agree. I walked into a bank, asked them to open the vault and got them to carry the money to my car. It may seem implausible, but I was smoking a cigarette. At the age of five, i destroyed two grandmasters in chess and had never even played before. I got a blow job at the first strip club I went to because all the strippers were begging to give me head

I don't always drink beer, but when I do; it is dos equis

Okay...

The biggest mistake I made with my gear was trading an amazing sounding JVM410HJS that I had for a powered Kemper.

:eek::doh::doh::doh:
both great pieces of gear but obviously completely different uses and purposes

it's a common meme, like this guitarmalade one:

The thing is, what the average guitar player needs is both

The modeler to woodshed at home, make decent sounding demos, and get a vague idea what a bunch of different amps and speakers sound like under a mic

And the amp to jam with real human beings, in a real room, and to learn how to control the guitar at volume on stage and with a band - which is apparently an anachronism at this point

Like towely, I think this is a situation where most people need to choose both.

Daniel Negreanu has won eight World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets and two World Poker Tour (WPT) championship titles.

When he was several credits short of graduation, he dropped out of high school and began his life as a rounder playing at local charity casinos, usually at Casino Country and Fundtime Games and looking for illegal games around the city.

Yeah Negreanu is really good for what it is too. Good stuff 👍

Stu had 5 but he is tied for most World Series Main Event Bracelets at 3 with Johnny Moss and many say Stu is the true leader because Moss won the first one by Players vote so technically Stu won all 3 by winning the last hand in all three events.

Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan are runner ups with 2 Main Event Bracelets and both won consecutive back to back World Series Main Event Bracelets and share that company with Stu "The-Kid" Ungar in regards to that record.

You're correct like usual.

Just imagine all the children playing behind computer screens today which makes it even easier. You don't even need to leave your house; illegal gambling just comes to you.

He's a monster player but even all those old head card sharks have been beaten in more recent WSOP events by relative unknowns.

Back then the events were smaller with way less players than now but one could say the quality of the players may have been better compared to now in some cases. There also weren't as many events. So I mean we ain't going to see another Chan or Doyle or Stu or Moss again probably ever.

Stu for example played professional Gin Rummy/Rummy and was a champ there too, guys like Slim or Nick the Greek didn't just play poker and they would place proposition bets over crazy things. Slim once beat the World Ping Pong Champion using paddles of Slims choice. Slim proposed he would pick the paddles, as defined by him, to make it fair since the other guy was the World Ping Champion.

The Ping Pong Champ agreed..... A month later when the event was set to take place Slim showed up with two skillets as they were to play with paddles of Slims choice and he had practiced for a month. Slim easily beat the Champ and the Champ asked for a rematch the following month.....

Ping Ping World Champ trained for a month on the skillet Slim had brought......

When the time came Slim brought glass Coke bottles this time, using paddles of his choice, he won and beat the World Champ out of another 10,000 dollars or whatever sum back then forgot how much 😂

This is true.....and thankfully these days I have both. QC mini and a Soldano SLO-100R. I swap them out live regularly depending upon where I am playing.

I dont have a high quality modeler. I think someone should buy me one
